What’s at stake when you DON’T make exercise a regular part of your routine?
For people living with type 1 diabetes, regular exercise is often discussed in terms of its benefits and risks. But what about the risks of NOT exercising?
1. 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Without regular exercise, maintaining stable blood glucose levels becomes more challenging, increasing the risk of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia.
2. 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: Lack of physical activity can lead to decreased insulin sensitivity, making it harder to manage diabetes effectively.
3. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: Regular exercise strengthens the heart and improves cardiovascular health. Without it, the risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular issues may rise significantly.
4. 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗶𝗻 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀: Physical inactivity can contribute to weight gain and lean muscle loss, complicating diabetes management, reducing insulin effectiveness, and increasing the risk of complications.
5. 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: Exercise has proven benefits for mental health, including reducing stress and improving mood. Without it, the risk of depression and anxiety may increase.
