✨ Sometimes, addressing a problem differently can lead to unexpected and beneficial outcomes. Over 20 years ago, our founder, Scott Poynton and his team embarked on a mission to redefine conservation and community relations. Perhutani, Indonesia’s state-owned Teak Corporation, had lost its #FSC certificates due to rampant illegal logging and violence. 💡Earthworm proposed a radical solution - remove all 4,000 semi-automatic weapons from the forests and encourage cooperation between rangers and disenfranchised communities. Nine years later (indeed, these things take time) - the FSC certificates were reinstated, the guns were locked away, and peace had taken root. This story is a testament to Earthworm’s DNA—a commitment to addressing the root causes and fostering long-term, sustainable relationships and solutions. 🌳 Today, as we welcomed the long-awaited weekend, my colleagues from across the globe and I had the privilege of joining Earthworm Foundation Founder, Scott Poynton, for an hour of virtual nature therapy walks. 🌲 Access to nature is a privilege, especially for someone like me living in the suburban area of Jakarta, a metropolitan capital with concerning air quality (ranked the third worst globally 😥 ). A simple walk, intended to be relaxing, often leads to contemplation about what I breathe into my lungs. 🍃 Nature therapy has been proven to reduce blood pressure and lower heart rate. In my daily life filled with to-do lists, as a communications person who spends most of my workday at a desk, it was truly refreshing to virtually experience the greenery on my screen as Scott and the team walked through the forest. Thank you Scott for your guidance and to our HR team for curating various activities throughout June, a month dedicated to wellbeing. These initiatives serve as a reminder of our shared commitment to both people and nature, encouraging us to prioritize self-care and reconnect with the natural world that inspires our work. With over 25 years of experience, Earthworm Foundation is the perfect ally. Starling, a satellite monitoring solution co-developed by Earthworm Foundation and Airbus Defence and Space - Intelligence, will help to improve our supply chain traceability. Traceability in the palm oil supply chain means that we can trace the palm oil product back to its plantation level, allowing us to monitor that the palm oil was sourced without contributing to deforestation and produced in an environmentally and socially conflict-free area. 🌟 Witnessing a murmuration of starlings is one of nature's most mesmerising spectacles. These birds gather in large flocks, twisting and turning in perfect synchrony, creating fluid, ever-changing shapes in the sky.    But why do starlings perform these aerial ballets? Flying in such tight formations reduces predation risk and demonstrates resilience as they navigate challenges such as predators or changing weather conditions. Likewise, supporting #farmers and #communities and strengthening their resilience are at the heart of our work.  It's a stunning display of collective behaviour, where each bird follows simple rules based on the movements of its neighbours, resulting in a coordinated and dynamic display. 🚵 Each bird in a murmuration is a participant and leader within a complex and ever-evolving system. Each has the power to shape the direction and shape of the whole system, to create entirely new constellations.    This natural phenomenon is a reminder of the power of collaboration and the beauty that emerges from unity. Just like the murmuration of starlings, we at Earthworm Foundation believe in the power of collective movement. Watching these birds soar in perfect harmony, guiding each other through new paths, reminds us that change is possible and inevitable when we come together.    Their synchronised flight symbolises how #solutions can spread and scale when we work in unison. By moving together with a shared purpose, we can achieve truly extraordinary things.
