We’re pleased to have convened a 𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙈𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞-𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 in the Ghanaian cocoa sector with the Swiss Embassy in Accra. At this lively event on 28 October, 80 participants from government, the private sector, civil society, and research reached the following conclusions: 🌱 𝘾𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙖 𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙣𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙩𝙨 for farmers, but more and better data are needed to strengthen the business case. 💰 𝙆𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 to transition to the promising Dynamic Agroforestry (DAF) model adopted by Sankofa partners. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewQtNtVW 📜 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡, focusing on practical solutions for tree ownership. 🌐 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 for DAF products outside of cocoa. 💪 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 is key by creating a centre of excellence for implementing agroforestry practices. Our discussion highlighted the 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞-𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝 to mainstream agroforestry in Ghana through: 1️⃣ Alignment of objectives and monitoring 2️⃣ Peer learning 3️⃣ Public-private partnerships 4️⃣ Enhancing the policy framework This event was supported by HALBA - Division der Coop Genossenschaft. We’re proud to launch the first project in Sierra Leone. “Project TRUST”, implemented by COCOASOURCE addresses the key challenges in the cocoa sector and empowers farmers to achieve sustainability and resilience. Here’s how Project TRUST will make a difference: 1️⃣ 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴: By setting a Living Income Reference Price for Sierra Leone, we aim to ensure cocoa farmers earn a fair income, improving livelihoods and building long-term buyer relationships. 2️⃣ 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵: The project promotes deforestation-free, climate-friendly cocoa production, identifying conservation areas and encouraging climate-smart farming, backed by a Payment for Environmental Services (PES) system. 3️⃣ 𝘌𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺: Farm mapping and digital management systems will ensure transparency and traceability across the supply chain, vital for fair income distribution and building trust.
