📢 #ATTRACTproject 📢 How do state aid regulations shape academia-industry partnerships in the EU ❓🧐 A recent study by the #ExSACT team and published in the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation explores this question, analyzing the effects of state aid rules on funding, research infrastructure use, and intellectual property (IP) rights. This study highlights challenges such as complex funding procedures and gaps in IP management, which can limit the effective use of public investments and delay the commercialization of research 🔬. Researchers have analyzed these dynamics by employing both quantitative and qualitative research methods and have found that a limited understanding of state aid rules often leads to inefficient funding mechanisms and missed opportunities for collaboration 🤜🤛. 🎉🎉 Congratulations to the team for their work: Urška Fric Tomaž Lutman Tinkara Mlinar, PhD ✅ Get to know more about this paper ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d7j8qGJq ✅ For detailed insights about the project, visit ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dUJnhrjF Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto Jozef Stefan Institute European Commission 🇪🇺 #EUfunded #ATTRACTEU #StateAidRegulations #IPManagement

Humanitarian Designers’ community met at IdeaSquare to reflect, share and gather better practices! Nearly fifty participants of Humanitarian Designers community and beyond, came together from all around the world for a three-day meetup lab at IdeaSquare in September. Humanitarian Designers is a French NGO dedicated to building bridges between aid workers and designers. The goal of this meetup lab was to explore practices, skills, disciplines and principles that come into play when dealing with humanitarian contexts and how design practices and skills might be interconnected.

We are pleased to have contributed a chapter to this interdisciplinary book exploring the new frontiers in science in the era of artificial intelligence! This volume not only explores the profound implications of these scientific frontiers but also forecasts their impact on daily life. It delves into ongoing research and the technology that fuels advancements in physics and related fields. Authored by renowned researchers and science communicators, this book appeals to researchers and non-experts seeking a comprehensive overview of emerging developments that challenge ongoing research and will impact education and society in the coming years. In our chapter, Dr. Markus Nordberg, Dr. Pablo Garcia Tello, Jimmy Poulaillon, Laura Wirtavuori, and Dr. L. Valtonnen (whose thesis focused on rationality in artificial intelligence decision-making), illustrate, with some selected examples, how AI might be used to advance reaching Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is discussed in the context of the Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) methodology developed at CERN IdeaSquare for interdisciplinary student teams. Five related AI student projects are described, incorporating both the research methodologies used by scientific organizations such as CERN, as well as user-experience driven approach which is essential in addressing SDG challenges. We also shared some thoughts about the use of AI in the hands of next-generation innovators educated at places like CERN. Read the chapter here: https://buff.ly/3UcobwX

NTNU Screening Week 2024 The last five days have been spent at CERN with Linn Kretzschmar and Hanaé Taxis from Knowledge Transfer. We have been collaborating with CERN since 2008, and this year, similar to previous years, we had a great program for the 4th-year master’s students from the NTNU School of Entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurship teams conducted feasibility studies on CERN-developed technologies. The NTNU School of Entrepreneurship is a two-year master’s program where students create their own ventures from Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU). The students develop reports on the application fields of the technologies that are of interest to Knowledge Transfer, and they also get the opportunity to create start-ups based on CERN-developed technology. It is a great learning opportunity to collaborate with important initiatives at CERN. The week was spent at IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN, where we always receive a warm welcome! This year, we spent quite some time with Robert Cailliau, who played an important role in the development of the World Wide Web. He gave us a lot of food for thought. Thank you so much to everyone who played an important part in this year’s program! It will be exciting to see if any of the student entrepreneurs will develop a business case from CERN technology. The faculty of the master program are proud of the students engagement, positivity and professionality! The initiative is funded by industry partners of the NTNUs Entreprenørskole, Norsk senter for CERN-relatert forskning (NorCC), and Insitute of Industrial Economics and Technology Managagement at NTNU. Thank you for supporting this important commercialization initiative!
