We're excited to announce that two of our talented CERCLE team members, Rob Terry and Katherine Littler, have co-authored a chapter in a groundbreaking new textbook on rapid research response to disease outbreaks. Their chapter, titled "𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝, 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘿𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙨, 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙" delves into the essential strategies for preparing and implementing effective emergency research. By emphasizing the importance of collaboration and information sharing, they highlight the critical role of these factors in ensuring swift and effective responses to health crises. We're proud of Rob and Katherine's contribution to this timely and vital work, which will undoubtedly shape future responses to global health challenges. A rare tropical disease throughout the 20th century, cases of Zika virus have now been reported across 89 countries and territories. In most people, symptoms of Zika are mild. But a rise in the number of infections in recent decades has led to two discoveries about the disease. 🟠 Zika infection can cause Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition that can cause paralysis. 🟠 It can also have huge health impacts for the unborn babies of infected pregnant people – including congenital malformations, stillbirth and foetal loss. So what is Zika, how does it spread and how can it be prevented? Read our explainer to find out ⤵️ https://wellc.me/3QFeeGz

To boost Somalia's health system and ensure access to life-saving vaccines for all, Africa CDC handed over cold chain equipment worth $497,617.84 to the Ministry of Health. This equipment, including walk-in cold rooms, refrigerators, vaccine carriers, and cold boxes, will strengthen the immunization program by ensuring the safe storage and transportation of vaccines to the last mile. This support is part of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods initiative, a partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
