The objective of our events series "Business in Sustainable Foodtech" organized in Switzerland with the support of the innovation agency Innosuisse is to stimulate the innovation of actors along the value chain from food production to consumption. We are supporting players such as SME, startups and food-related organizations to initiate technology-based innovation projects thanks to connections with R&D centers. Thus optimizing their processes, products and business models, contributing to their development while positively impacting the sustainability of the agri-food ecosystem. We take a transversal approach, creating communities of interest and boosting open innovation through collaborative intelligence. "The lively and interesting event in #Lugano showed that today there is a clear sensitivity in our Canton towards the issue of food sustainability, a commitment which is reflected in the activity of numerous #startups in the sector, but which also finds concrete support of cantonal and municipal authorities sensitive to the topic. The case of Mulino Maroggia is an emblematic example of economic intervention in which the various factors of environmental sustainability were taken into consideration in a very precise way with the aim of improving both the quality of the product and the effectiveness of the production process. The testimony of Alessandro Fontana, director of the mill, illustrated to the numerous guests present the steps taken for the reconstruction and restarting of the plant after the dramatic fire of November 2020. The Mulino's collaboration with Migros Ticino, one of the main commercial partners of the Maroggia company for decades, was fundamental. Mattia Keller, director of Migros Ticino, recalled how the Ticino Cooperative plays an important role in the sale of the mill's products. These are specialties that have long been part of the "Nostrani del Ticino" product line. Further clarifications on the reconstruction intervention were also provided by Stefan Birrer, Managing Director of the Bühler Group, the Swiss company that supplied the technical equipmentin of the new mill. Fontana explained in particular how the production processes have been optimized precisely with a view of improving all aspects linked to the sustainability of processing, with a global, measurable and concrete decrease in CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the numerous initiatives launched within University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland and other research-related institutes should not be forgotten, including private foundations such as the Fondazione AGIRE | Tecnopolo Ticino."
