For the next generation of the Airbus-built European Galileo 🛰 navigation satellites we provide the structure (satellite chassis). Recently, the satellite structure left our production site in Zurich Seebach. It is the second structure we delivered. Six Galileo Second Generation satellites are being built by Airbus’ site in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The other six satellites are being built by Thales Alenia Space in Italy. The second generation Galileo navigation satellites will help improve accuracy of the European Global Navigation Satellite System. Galileo began delivering services in 2016. Nowadays it is serving nearly four billion users worldwide. The Galileo constellation’s satellites are orbiting Earth 🌍 at an altitude of over 23,000 kilometres. The next European environmental satellite called #Sentinel2C arrived at Europe's spaceport in Kourou (South America) 🌴 We provided various products to this mission, e.g. the solar array drive mechanisms and the satellite's navigation receiver 🧭
🛰⛵• After a big 2-week trip across the Atlantic Ocean, on board Canopée, the Sentinel-2C satellite safely arrived on the shores of French Guiana. Now at the facilities of the European Spaceport in Kourou, the satellite’s launch campaign has officially started. It will undergo a series of pre-launch tests to prepare for its lift-off in September aboard a #Vega rocket. 🚀 The launch mission #VV24 will be the historic final flight for the Vega launcher, a flight in service of #Copernicus, the #EarthObservation component of the European Union’s #Space programme, providing crucial climate and environmental data for the #planet 🌍 . #AccessToSpace #EUSpace #DestinationSpace #Arianespace European Commission, European Space Agency - ESA, Airbus Defence and Space, Airbus, AVIO, OceanWings, ArianeGroup

The European Juice spacecraft (Jupiter Icy moons Explorer) will study Jupiter (the largest planet in our Solar System) and three of its icy moons. In about one month Juice will make a fly-by at Earth. This ‘braking’ manoeuvre will take the Juice spacecraft on a shortcut to Jupiter via Venus. The European Space Agency - ESA’s Juice spacecraft is controlled by our On Board Computer from our site in Gothenburg, Sweden. We also provided structures, an antenna and the thermal insulation for the Juice mission 👉 https://lnkd.in/d-W-72aH More about the fly-by: https://lnkd.in/db-6tHfY Image credit: ESA, ATG Medialab
