The Power of the Pledge in Action! The Rights in Exile platform, a vital resource for refugees and legal practitioners formerly run by AMERA, will continue to operate thanks to the collaboration of #GRFLegalCommunityPledge members. AsyLex has taken over management of the platform thanks to the support of pledging law firms, Norton Rose Fulbright , A&O Shearman, and Herbert Smith Freehills The Pledge members now have a collective vision for the future of Rights in Exile that builds on partnership, knowledge sharing, and cooperation, elements at the heart of the Pledge, to create a collaborative management model for the platform. Their goals include informing asylum seekers and refugees of their rights, facilitating access to justice, and connecting asylum legal practitioners worldwide. Learn more about this example of the power of the Pledge to unite legal actors around the common aim of increasing access to legal assistance and information for refugees - and how you can contribute: https://lnkd.in/euk_WzNA #refugees #legalaid #probono #collaboration

Great way to end the week! 🌞 Last Friday, AsyLex had the pleasure of holding a workshop with Bain & Company as part of their Community Impact Day. Our Head of Operations Delphine, Fundraising/Corporate Finance volunteer Mia, and Vice President Nathalie, presented our work and current fundraising strategy, followed by a productive brainstorming session with the Bain Team on how to enhance our corporate fundraising approach. A huge thank you to the Bainies who contributed last Friday 🙏 We thoroughly enjoyed the discussion and appreciate your support - can't wait to translate the insights into actionable items!

Switzerland's Commitment to Human Rights: Time for Action ⌛A year has passed since the UN Committee Against Torture (CAT) shared its crucial observations on Switzerland's 8th periodic report. Yet, the implementation of these recommendations is still lacking. 📃 At AsyLex, as part of the NGO Human Rights Platform Switzerland, we've been closely monitoring the situation and have contributed to an alternative report (https://lnkd.in/evXgAb7B). Our findings reveal alarming concerns in the asylum system and the principle of non-refoulement: 🚨 Asylum seekers who have previously experienced inhumane treatment, particularly in Croatia and Greece, but who are nevertheless returned under the Dublin system, face re-traumatisation, which is particularly acute in the absence of medical care in Croatia and Greece. This is unacceptable and traumatic and may in certain cases violate the principle of non-refoulement.❌ ⚠️ Despite CAT highlighting these critical issues, Switzerland has not taken effective measures to address them. 📢Call to Action: It's time for action! Effective implementation of CAT recommendations requires a collaborative effort between the government and civil society 🤝. We are ready and eager to engage constructively to ensure Switzerland upholds the highest standards of human rights protection. 🛡️ For more details, read the attached media release from the NGO Platform (in German)

🚀 New Success Story! 🚀 ⚖ We won a case defending a young Afghan who was wrongfully detained under ‘temporary detention' (Art. 73 AIG). The court ruled that this version of administrative detention violated international law as it is a Dublin Case. 🗓 If you would like to learn more about administrative detention, join us at the next AsyLex Academy on 21 September in Zurich.
