Formula Student Team of ETH Zürich

Info

We are thrilled to share that the AMZ Rollout took place last Tuesday! We proudly introduced our latest race car, dufour, at the BMW Group Brand Experience Center in Dielsdorf. With over 250 guests in attendance, the event featured an in-depth presentation of the vehicle's cutting-edge technology. Attendees also enjoyed impressive demonstration runs of dufour and castor. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

The one-second barrier is no more: 0.956 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h We are thrilled to announce that we have broken the Guiness World Record for 0-100 km/h acceleration by an electric car. This is not only a new record but also the first time an electric vehicle has reached the sub-one second milestone. First, we want to thank all our sponsors and partners for their unconditional support and commitment. Your belief in our vision and persistence to push the boundaries of eclectic race cars has been the driving force behind our success. Furthermore, this achievement would not have been possible without the involvement of numerous members of the AMZ association and of ETH Zürich and HSLU Hochschule Luzern, our home universities. Their bet on this project is not only the knowledge we receive in class but also the infrastructure and institutional support of our educational mission. To AMZ it is an honor to provide an opportunity to students, empowering them to become better engineers and showcasing what they can achieve. From August 14th to 20th, Formula Student Germany took place at the Hockenheimring. Our fourth and last event was also the most important and biggest of the season. We started well into the event and were one of the first teams to pass the technical scrutineering. The subsequent static disciplines were also fruitful and we were able to win the engineering design event🥇. Subsequently, we started successfully in the dynamic disciplines and were able to achieve the best time in the acceleration event🥇, 3.27s, which is the best time ever of an AMZ car. Unfortunately we had bad luck with a perception sensor in the autonomous competition, so we could not finish two of four disciplines. In the manual competition it was exciting until the very end as the team from Aachen and us were battling for the win until the end of the endurance final. In the end it was a very good second place for us, which the whole team can be proud of. Congratulations to all the other participants and especially to Ecurie Aix - Formula Student Team RWTH Aachen e.V. for their 1st place in the electric category, Chalmers Formula Student for their victory in the driverless cup and also High Speed Karlsruhe for their win in the last combustion event of FSG. Thanks to Formula Student Germany for organizing the event and thanks to all our sponsors for their support, without which we could not have achieved these successes. The new team will start to design a new prototype very soon with which we will try to improve our result again next year. From the 1st to the 5th of July we participated in FS Switzerland. During the first few days, we went through mechanical, electrical and accumulator scrutineering. Simultaneously, we participated in the static disciplines of cost & manufacturing, business plan and engineering design. On the second to last day, we passed all the requirements and were finally allowed to participate in the dynamic disciplines. Scrutineering was a great opportunity to learn and gain new experience that will definitely have us more prepared for upcoming events. Despite missing the Acceleration event due to problems we had to fix during scrutineering, we were all still extremely motivated and ready for the Skidpad, Autocross and Endurance events. This motivation and our hard work paid off, as we won all the dynamic events that we participated in. Combined with top places in static disciplines we achieved the overall 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 at formula student Switzerland. Huge thanks to all the teams and organizers at FS Switzerland, it was truly an amazing event to kick off the competition season. Congratulations to all the other teams and of course congrats @bernracingteam and @fastforrestdeggendorf for your well deserved podium places. FSCH results: 🥇Overall 🥇Endurance 🥇Autocross 🥇Skidpad 🥇Efficiency 🥇Engineering Design 🥇Cost & Manufacturing 🥉Business Plan Presentation We are now looking forward to the next Event on our calendar: Formula Student Austria starting 22nd of July. Stay tuned !

A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to test our designed aerodynamics at the RUAG wind tunnel. This year we have also been accompanied by Andrin Landolt from streamwise gmbh to get some very insightful visualisations of the airflow. The time in the wind tunnel was a great privilege and has helped us to validate and improve our aerodynamic package.

Near-perfect conditions for Sensor Tracking Velocimetry with ProCap on the new AMZ Racing formula student car CASTOR in the Automotive Wind Tunnel (AWTE) at RUAG. Obviously, a lot is happening on these cars. As with ProCap only a few minutes are required to complete one run and the 3D flow field is visualized in real-time, we gathered enough data in one day to support both the experimentalists and the CFD-people in the team for the further development. Congratulations to the AMZ Racing team for winning the latest Formula Student Engineering Design Event! Many thanks also for the great support of the aerodynamics team at RUAG! #windtunnel #formulastudent #innovation #RUAG
