The Edmonton Metropolitan Region’s food and agriculture sector is built on a foundation of excellence in sustainable practices. As a region that includes both a large urban centre and 2.4 million acres of fertile farmland, the sector is both rural and urban, traditional and high-tech, and includes a strong research and development ecosystem. Here are some highlights: 💫 The Edmonton region can feed the world – We’re one of the few places in the world that produces more food than it consumes. 💫There has not been a region-wide crop failure in over 100 years. 💫Canada is the largest producer of pulse crops and accounts for a quarter of the world's supply of dry peas. The Alberta advantage extends here with the province having the highest yields of dry peas, faba beans and oats in Canadian prairies. 💫Our cold climate is a competitive advantage!
