A very timely article, considering it’s the start of Tire Change Season: https://lnkd.in/gx5-J3K3  It feels as if every fall and spring I come across a few cases that fit the same pattern: § Tire dealer receives a call from a brand new client § Client isn’t currently in town and  wants to pay over the phone with a credit card § Client will have someone come pick up the product Inevitably, it turns out that credit card doesn’t belong to the person placing the order. That person doesn’t even need tires; they just want to get their hands on a product that’s easy to resell and not-so-easy to trace. By the time the dealer receives a chargeback, the product is long gone. In speaking with various businesses over the years, part of best practices boils down to: § Determining what the risk appetite is and putting a dollar figure to it § Anything above that figure, first-time customers need to come to the shop in person, insert their card into the Point of Sale terminal, and put in their PIN Enforcing this practice might result in a lost sale, but at least it won’t result in lost product and the added sting of an irreversible chargeback.
