Today, Canada introduced introduced Bill C-72 - the Connected Care for Canadians Act. This Act is about enabling Canadians to securely access their own health data, which will empower patient's decision-making and improve the care they receive from health providers in Canada. It outlines Canada's plan to enable a modern, connected care system, in which health information can be securely accessed by patients and shared between providers, when needed. Canadians – both patients and providers – should be able to access their health information simply, securely, and digitally. Yet today, less than 40% of Canadians report accessing some of their health information electronically and only 35% of physicians share patient information outside their practice.

Our team of researchers, Black community partners, policy makers (e.g. Justice Canada, PHAC, WAGE) and community members received $2,500,000 from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada to "Transform the Lives of Black Children and Youth in Canada". This is most likely the largest tri-council research grant for Black communities in Canada. Our project will facilitate a national research network, informed by critical race theory and intersectional theory, to meet three broad objectives addressing the needs and issues of Black children and youths (0 to 24 years) in Canada, as follows: --- Co-create knowledge and diverse solutions/interventions to address this group's overrepresentation in the CJ and CW systems, their poor educational outcomes, and settlement issues---via participatory action research (including a national survey, interviews, focus groups and intervention research) --- Create an interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and bilingual network, centre, and knowledge hub to mobilize evidence to improve this group's well-being and build capacity---by engaging researchers, trainees, policymakers, Black communities, and service providers across Canada. --- Train students and postdoctoral (PDF) researchers, including Black youths---facilitating their transition to academic and non-academic workplace settings.
