I'll second Chris Allison and others in recommending that technologists in the Government of Canada and the many IT vendors that serve the GC watch the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates ("OGGO") July 24th meeting in which Amanda Clarke and Sean Boots shared excellent insights on the challenges & opportunities surrounding IT services procurement. It might look daunting at >2 hours of recording however you can save time by skipping past the totally unrelated motion (/amendment... /sub-amendment...) from 12:10:17 to 12:48:18 :) Even for those not overly-interested in the world of procurement, Professor Clarke & Mr. Boots provided thoughtful testimony on a number of related challenges in the world of the Government's digital transformation - The most interesting one for me being this commentary from Professor Clarke: "Senior leadership across the federal government has risen through a system in which they were never asked to understand technology - And in fact, often what I hear from public servants when I interview them is that senior leaders would like to insulate themselves from tech projects because they know they so often fail. There's a kind of learned helplessness and a willful blindness to these problems, and an assumption that the IT community will handle it. [...] We have this cadre of senior leaders who have power & influence and who are responsible for a lot of this oversight - who sign off on things like big IT contracts - who aren't getting that mandatory training to be good stewards and understand the basics of technology." If this is the norm as opposed to an exception, it hints at a larger problem that various stakeholders in the GC don't yet realize/accept that all companies are tech companies (to steal an ~8-year-old adage), and all government entities are digital entities. IT procurement & digital service delivery indeed requires the evolution that Professor Clarke and Mr. Boots suggest in their testimony and paper, however a more immediate call-to-action should be to start recognizing government "IT projects" as business & value transformation projects, and "technology" as a standard currency of the business. #gcdigital #servicedelivery #digitalgovernment #citizenservices #msftadvocate https://lnkd.in/gsY92fvB

It was great to sit down with The Canadian Press at the Microsoft Executive AI Summit yesterday to discuss the AI opportunity. As we look towards the future, we will continue to emphasize the benefits of AI to enhance workflows and boost productivity. I encourage everyone, regardless of their level or sector, to start conversations today about how AI can help solve challenges in their organization. https://lnkd.in/gxTbypsV
