Francine presently spearheads the IND-enabling initiative at ProteinQure, focusing on advancing the lead asset PQ203, a peptide drug conjugate, through the developmental pipeline. Previously, she made significant contributions at Northern Biologics, a clinical-stage biotechnology firm specializing in cancer immunotherapies, where she contributed to the advancement of their lead asset through Phase 2 clinical trials. Francine completed her PhD at the University of Toronto and conducted her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School.

The Canadian Forum for Rare Disease Innovators (RAREi) welcomes the first bilateral agreement reached as part of the federal government’s National Strategy for Drugs for Rare Diseases, with British Columbia leading the way. This is a positive step towards improving access to screening, diagnosis and treatments for the 1 in 12 British Columbians affected by a rare disorder. We encourage more provinces to follow suit in the coming months so that all Canadians across the country can benefit as soon as possible from enhanced rare disease care and treatments to live better and longer lives. Canadians currently wait too long to receive a proper diagnosis, obtain specialized care, and get access to the medicines they need. We are hopeful that these bilateral agreements and the related funding will help improve this, including accelerating public funding of rare disease medicines approved by Health Canada. To make the best use of the funding, governments need to work closely with the broader rare disease community, including patients, clinicians and rare disease innovators.
