About us

WAT.ai is the official student body of the University of Waterloo AI Institute (Waterloo.AI) and a member of the Sedra Student Design Centre (SSDC). Our goal is to enable the future generation of AI leaders to succeed by connecting them with the right opportunities and networks today. We have over 30 AI projects, work closely with professors and external collaborators, run and participate in AI hackathons, host workshops and conferences, and build a strong AI community.     🎉 Our Core Member applications for F24-W25 are finally open! 📄 Fall 2024 WAT.ai Core Member Application Form: https://lnkd.in/gHcu8jiP 🦉 Core Members are members of our small project teams. Typically, each project runs for 8 months and is composed of 4-8 members who take part in developing a technical project that uses AI. Some projects are more research focused and others are about building a product. Every project is led by Technical Project Managers (TPMs), who have technical expertise to help you learn and have planned the goals/deadlines for the project. 💻 We are considering Core Members on our 13 different projects for roles such as machine learning developer, full-stack development, research and experimentation, data engineering, and MLOps.     🥇 We took home first place last week at the Waterloo Data & Artificial Intelligence Institute's Wildfire Forecasting Challenge! 🔥 Wildfires have a direct and measurable impact on our quality of life and on the state of our natural environment. 🌲 Team We Didn't Start the Fire (Areel Khan, Kiernan McGuigan, Ken Wu, Trevor Yu, and myself) tackled the problem of wildfire forecasting head on. We're excited to have our work recognized by experts for its potential to improve wildfire management systems.

We are seeking motivated AI enthusiasts to join our team as Technical Project Managers for our third year of projects! If you want to be a part of shaping the future of AI at the University of Waterloo, there is no better time than now. Join us! Positions Details Technical Project Managers (TPMs) are at the core of every project that we run. TPMs will lead and manage a 8-month AI project, from conception to delivery, including developing project plans and goals, hiring a team, and technical advising. With the support of the WAT.ai Product team, there is no better place to grow your skills for being a leader in the AI field! If you have an interest in designing and building AI products and projects in a leadership role, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Background We suggest candidates have some background in leadership, technical project work, and AI.
