“We are no more important, than a single drop of rain. “ - shifting the way we think about architecture
About us
Our focus is on guiding the realignment of mainstream ways of thinking on their journey towards Indigenous ways of knowing, being, design and architecture. Our ultimate goal is to promote architecture that has a positive impact on nature, humanity, and our current sense of civilization. In keeping with our tradition and to reflect community values, the search for a name was brought to the renowned Cayuga Faith keeper and linguist, Reg Henry. After several conversations with Reg, focus was given to architectural terms as interpreted by native language and the meaning these carried from their traditional roots. The final choice of Two Row was drawn from a weave of beads known as the 'Two Row Wampum'.

Get ready for a new pedestrian bridge spanning Toronto’s Keating Channel. We’re thrilled to be part of the design team that has been selected by Waterfront Toronto as part of an international design competition to deliver the Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge, which will provide a vital connection for residents and visitors to a growing network of waterfront destinations and an expanded regional park system along the Don River. We will be providing engineering services for the bridge as part of a team led by WilkinsonEyre and Zeidler Architecture and comprising of Two Row Architect and PLANT Architect Inc.. “Engineering a structure designed to harmoniously integrate into its environment is an honour,” said Yen Wu, Arup’s Project Manager. “With arch and deck compression, the Equinox Bridge’s form-finding geometry creates a beautiful, organic shape that pays tribute to Toronto’s past, present, and future. “We at Arup are excited about our collaboration with Waterfront Toronto, as well as our partners WilkinsonEyre and Zeidler Architecture,” added Project Director Omid Nakhaei. “Together, we are committed to playing our part in delivering this iconic project for Toronto.” Learn more about the bridge here: https://bit.ly/4bujt4j #Infrastructure #BridgeDesign

Today, we opened our first Indigenous Placekeeping Space at TELUS Harbour in Toronto, which is an entire floor fully dedicated to Indigenous culture, history and heritage, created in collaboration with Two Row Architect, BOOM InterTribal, and Indigenous leaders, elders, Knowledge Keepers and community members. The space features work from outstanding local Indigenous artists and is designed to create a sense of place for Indigenous team members and guests, whilst acknowledging and celebrating the culture and histories of the Indigenous territories on which our building is located. This beautiful space, and future spaces to come, demonstrates TELUS’ commitment to advancing reconciliation. I am grateful to everyone who guided our efforts to ensure this space is honouring the Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee Peoples of this Territory. Thank you to Yuma Dean and Marjan Verstappen of the Bawaadan Collective for photographing the event and the space.

Our work is not about us, or the company I work with; Two Row Architect. It’s about the People we work with, and the Places we get to do that work in. This project is a result of an institution learning about and honouring the knowledge of the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ people through the act of building and place keeping. https://lnkd.in/ge8JTh8P

On behalf of the Collaborative Partnership of Two Row Architect (Prime), Teeple Architects Inc., and Low Hammond Rowe Architects we are honoured to share that the University of Victoria’s National Centre for Indigenous Laws has been awarded a Canadian Architect Award of Excellence. The jurors commented: “I love this idea of the Indigenous program wrapping around—and effectively allowing the First Nations’ program to recolonize—the ubiquitous old 20th-century academic building currently housing the law school. The plan is functionally well integrated with the existing building, but the materials and expression of the new building says: “This is a law school that understands where it is located, and is committed to reconciliation.” Now in its 56th year, the Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence represent the highest honor for outstanding design in the Canadian architectural industry. Recognizing design ambition in commissioned but unfinished projects, exceptional student work, and architectural photography, the program fosters a culture of design excellence. Out of 218 submissions, the jury selected five projects for Awards of Excellence, eight for Awards of Merit, and three for Student Awards of Excellence, along with two winners of the Photo Award of Excellence. The jury, consisting of architects Omar Gandhi, Claire Weisz, and Michael Heeney, along with photography juror Jacqueline Young, carefully evaluated and announced the winners. Details on the award-winning projects, as well as jury comments, can be found in the December 2023 issue of Canadian Architect magazine, both in print https://lnkd.in/gHs9r2nb and online https://lnkd.in/gzEWBjGa For additional details on the award-winning projects, click here: https://lnkd.in/g7D9WWfY 📸 Tango Studio Full Credits in the Comments
