This month’s “Did You Know” is brought to you by Ian Kasper. Ian is a criminal lawyer and a member of TLA’s Criminal Committee. Did you know…that you can now locate important practice information for the Ontario Court of Justice on the court’s redesigned website? In the post-COVID world, counsel often lament the difficulty of tracking down publicly available information for the Ontario Court of Justice that is necessary for practice. Now, the court’s redesigned website includes access to publicly available Zoom details for non-trial courts (including case management, guilty plea, and bail courts) for courthouses across the province and the court’s Practice Directions (including local and province-wide practice directions). For example, the Court’s practice direction relating to 12-week adjournments from first appearance for counsel matters has been expanded from Toronto and Brampton to several jurisdictions across various regions. See here: https://lnkd.in/gZAnsUBy In addition, the Court has a specific practice direction relating to Jordan-compliant trial scheduling. See here: https://lnkd.in/gtM7a6mN Having this information publicly available (versus e-mailing the Crown or court to get it) has made my life easier recently. I hope that the OCJ continues to post practice-specific information on its website. #NewBook! All three volumes of the new edition of Canadian Business Corporations Law are now available at the TLA Library! The fourth edition of Kevin McGuinness's widely cited treatise on corporate law has been fully updated to take into account the significant legislative developments and expanded case law that has been handed down since the previous edition was published in 2017. The new edition sifts through the enormous body of new material in order to identify those cases that most significantly refine, expand or otherwise modify the law, and that therefore, have the most important precedential value.
