Securing critical employment lands to attract new business investment and support existing firm growth and expansion is a challenge for all communities across the Toronto region and Innovation Corridor. It’s one of the issues the Board raised in our Race for Space report last year. Tony La Mantia, BA, MA, ICD.D, CEO of Waterloo EDC, warns how this crisis is playing out in the Waterloo area. As he writes in the Waterloo Region Record, Waterloo region has lost $10 billion in investment and 14,000 jobs due to the lack of shovel-ready mega employment sites appropriate for a large manufacturer. Last week I had the privilege of joining Andrew Weir of Destination Toronto and Daniel Hengeveld of Toronto Global for a dynamic conversation with the DT Client Advisory Board on the value of Toronto's unique intellectual capital. The Takeaway: Win-win. Our diverse economy and talent not only fuels business prosperity and livability, it's also a value add for global conferences, festivals and events. A virtuous economic cycle and a competitive edge.

Toronto’s ability to meet its #electricvehicle (EV) targets is crucial—not just for hitting climate goals, but for tapping into a fast-growing global market. As the EV revolution accelerates, governments at all levels are making substantial investments in EV and battery manufacturing, adjusting policies to encourage private investment in the supply chain, and streamlining EV charging installation. As the Board's Jeremy Piamonte says in our latest Policy Insights blog, the region faces a clear risk-reward scenario: failure to act quickly could result in missed opportunities, while embracing the shift positions Toronto to reap significant economic and environmental benefits. What do business, consumers and government need to do? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gd6gp_RM
