Anytime we get blinders on as marketers, we risk our ad profitability. What do we mean by blinders? ▶ Having platform-specific budgets instead of a generalized, flexible ad budget. Why do you have to spend all your money on A if B could garner more results? ▶ Getting too hung up on a particular metric or signal vs. looking at multiple metrics and signals to see if you've met your objective. ROAS can't always tell us everything. ▶ Not having a strategic objective at all and considering specific metrics, like ROAS for example, as the main objective. User generated content (UGC) is a fantastic creative format to get audience attention and engagement on digital ads but a lot of organizations are afraid to utilize it. Sure, it doesn't produce your usual polished brand assets but that's the magic. Here are three ways we recommend getting started incorporating UGC into your campaigns. 1) Start small and test out a few little assets using UGC instead of running a whole campaign. 2) Measure the results. Part of the UGC magic is testing out new ad formats quickly and pivoting to the more successful types. 3) Find the right creators and start small. Smaller creators might not have the same reach but they're often more niche so you can find someone in your exact industry or product category who already knows what you're about. There are three reasons we think “ugly” performance creative outperforms highly polished ads: 1️⃣ Pattern interrupt. Content that doesn’t look the same as all the other ads or content a viewer scrolls through is thumb-stopping. 2️⃣ Perceived authenticity. Ads that feel more like organic content and less like ads are more likely to make the viewer feel positively towards the brand.  3️⃣ It’s more responsive to what’s working than traditional ad formats.
