Last year, The Sonor Foundation with partners, including World Education Services, Ontario Trillium Foundation, The United Church of Canada Foundation, Fondation Chamandy Foundation, Martha LA McCain, The Canadian Women's Foundation and The Counselling Foundation of Canada, launched a $2.1M Transcend Impact Challenge. We set out to support trans and gender-diverse communities to thrive and live prosperous lives through supportive environments, economic and financial stability and inclusion, housing, education, and access to inclusive health care. Défi d'Impact : Reconnecter | Comment pouvons-nous permettre à davantage d’enfants et de jeunes suivis par le système de protection de la jeunesse d’être en relation avec leurs proches* et ainsi d’établir des relations étroites et valorisantes ?   Pour toutes sortes de raisons, de nombreux enfants et jeunes sont séparés de leur famille biologique et placés en famille d’accueil, ou dans d’autres types de milieux. Au Canada, environ 59 000 enfants et jeunes vivent aux soins de l’État dans des familles d’accueil, ou chez des membres de leur famille élargie, ou encore dans des institutions — les familles autochtones ou afrodescendantes sont touchées de manière disproportionnée. Plus de la moitié des enfants de moins de 15 ans qui sont en famille d’accueil au Canada sont autochtones, alors qu’ils et elles ne composent que 7,7 % de la population infantile. Bien que les données sur les enfants afrodescendants soient limitées, la proportion de ces enfants pris en charge en Ontario est 2,2 fois plus élevée que leur proportion au sein de la population infantile.    Diverses recherches et initiatives mettent en relief l’importance de la réunification, du placement dans la famille élargie, des soins conformes aux traditions et des systèmes de soutien qui permettent aux enfants et aux jeunes de maintenir des relations significatives avec leurs proches ou d’autres adultes soutenants. Toutefois, il n’existe pas de système national ou standardisé qui encourage et soutienne le placement dans la famille élargie et les soins conformes aux traditions. Nous croyons qu’en aidant les enfants et les jeunes au sein du système de protection de la jeunesse à établir des liens avec leurs proches, nous assurons un meilleur avenir pour les enfants, les jeunes, les familles, les communautés et le pays. Défi d'Impact : Reconnecter est un fonds de 1,5 million de dollars qui a pour but d’aider les enfants et les jeunes qui sont pris en charge par le système de protection de la jeunesse de connecter avec leurs proches.   Comment pouvons-nous permettre à davantage d’enfants et de jeunes suivis par le système de protection de la jeunesse d’être en relation avec leurs proches* et ainsi d’établir des relations étroites et valorisantes ? * Les proches sont des personnes qui ont une relation significative et un lien d’attachement avec un ou une enfant ou jeune, qu’elles y soient liées biologiquement ou non.   La période de dépôt des candidatures débute le 20 février et se termine le 8 mars à 23 h 59 HNE. https://lnkd.in/eQ4VkMW6 Narinder Dhami Rebecca Gardiner Sadia Khan

Reconnect Impact Challenge: How can we enable more children and youth in contact with child protection systems to connect with kin* and build strong and empowering relationships? The Sonor Foundation is excited to launch the Reconnect Impact Challenge – a new national Impact Challenge in support of Parents, Children and Youth. Many children and youth, due to varied circumstances, find themselves separated from their biological families and placed in foster care or alternative arrangements. Across Canada, approximately 59,000 children and youth are living in permanent government care with foster families, extended family, or in institutional settings – disproportionately impacting Indigenous and Black families.   Research and initiatives highlight the importance of reunification efforts, kinship and customary care, and support systems that enable children and youth to maintain meaningful relationships with their relatives or other close supportive adults. However, there is no national approach or standard for supporting and enabling kinship and customary care in Canada. We believe that supporting efforts to connect kin will enable better long-term outcomes for children, families, communities and for Canada.   The Reconnect Impact Challenge is a $1.5M fund to support children and youth in contact with child protection systems to connect with kin. The fund will provide multi-year grants ranging from $100k to $300k per organization over two or three years to groups across Canada. This is a one-time funding program that we hope will stimulate further investment into supporting children, youth, and families connected to the child protection system across the Canadian funding landscape. In addition to funding, selected grantees will receive capacity building coaching and support.   *Kin are individuals who have a relationship with a child or youth and may include biologically related kin or individuals without a biological connection but with a significant social connection and an emotional bond. Ce mois-ci, nous célébrons la Fierté. La Fierté est une occasion de célébrer la communauté 2SLGBTQ et d’attirer l’attention sur les inégalités vécues par cette communauté. Face à la haine anti-trans croissante, il est plus important que jamais de soutenir les communautés de personnes trans et de genre divers.   Cette année, avec des partenaires comme le World Education Services Mariam Assefa Fund, la Fondation Trillium de l’Ontario, la Fondation de l’Église Unie du Canada, la Fondation Chamandy, la Counselling Foundation of Canada, la Fondation canadienne des femmes, la Toronto Foundation et Martha LA McCain, nous avons lancé le Transcend Defi Impact. L’objectif de ce défi est de soutenir les communautés de personnes trans et de genre divers pour qu’elles puissent s’épanouir et prospérer grâce à un milieu soutenant, à une stabilité économique et financière, à des mesures inclusives et à l’accès au logement, à l’éducation et aux soins de santé. Plus de 155 demandes ont été reçues, provenant de 12 provinces et territoires, et totalisant 35 millions de dollars.   En plus de notre gratitude envers nos partenaires financiers, nous sommes grandement reconnaissant·e·s envers notre comité consultatif, composé de leaders trans et de genre divers œuvrant à travers le Canada. En plus d’avoir contribué à la conception du Challenge, le comité a examiné toutes les demandes de financement et a fourni des recommandations. Ce groupe a alimenté tous les aspects du défi et leur a donné forme.   C’est avec grande joie que nous vous annonçons cette bonne nouvelle ! Grâce au Transcend Défi Impact, plus de 2,1 millions de dollars ont été attribués en financement sur trois ans à neuf organismes extraordinaires qui œuvrent à travers le Canada. Le soutien apporté par ces leaders et équipes aux communautés de personnes trans et de genre divers a un impact considérable. Earlier this summer we celebrated Pride month. Pride is a time to celebrate the 2SLGBTQ community and call to attention the ongoing inequities this community faces. And with anti-trans hate on the rise, efforts to support trans and gender-diverse communities are more important than ever.   This year, alongside partners including the World Education Services Mariam Assefa Fund, Ontario Trillium Foundation, The United Church of Canada, Fondation Chamandy Foundation, The Counselling Foundation of Canada, The Canadian Women's Foundation, Toronto Foundation and Martha LA McCain, we launched the Transcend Impact Challenge. The challenge’s goal is to support trans and gender diverse communities to thrive and live prosperous lives through supportive environments, economic and financial stability and inclusion, housing, education, and health care access. Over 155 applications across 12 provinces and territories, totalling $35M in total requests were received.   In addition to our funding partners, we are very grateful to our Advisory Committee, which comprised trans and gender diverse leaders across the country. From input into the design of the Challenge, to reviewing all funding applications, and providing recommendations - this group informed and shaped all aspects of the challenge.   We are excited to share some great news with you! Through the Transcend Impact Challenge, we have awarded more than $2.1 million in funding across three years to nine incredible organizations across Canada.
