About us

A thriving and diversified port, the Port Alberni Port Authority facilitates profitable maritime trade and marine related tourism by offering services and leadership that respect both the community and the environment. The Port Authority operates five successful marinas. There are four pleasure craft marinas; Clutesi Haven, China Creek, Harbour Quay and Tyee Landing, with approximately 543 berths and one Small Craft Harbour – Fishermen’s Harbour for the commercial customers with a total of 500 berths. Along with China Creek Marina, the Port leases lands from the Regional District to operate a 250-site campground. Port Alberni Port Authority manages over 100 land exchange agreements, licenses, and foreshore leases on behalf of the Federal Crown and Province of British Columbia. The majority of the Port’s foreshore leases in the Provincial portion of the harbour are log storage leases to major forestry sector corporations. On the uplands fronting the Federal portion of the harbour, the Port leases land and/or facilities to a variety of marine related businesses in the fields of marine repair, maintenance and retail sales, as well as welding, fabricating and marine ways.

  • Today, we at the Port Alberni Port Authority are celebrating the incredible seafarers who keep our waterways safe and ensure global trade sails smoothly. This annual celebration, known as the #DayOfTheSeafarer, is organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to recognize the vital contributions seafarers make to our everyday lives. The role of seafarers often goes under-appreciated within the maritime industry and by the general public. Seafarers are an essential component in world trade, keeping the economy moving and delivering the goods and fuels we use every day. From expertly navigating rough seas to maintaining a safe workplace and protecting our environment, their contributions are truly heroic! We’re fortunate to collaborate with some of the finest professionals in the industry at our port.

We are honoured to live, work, and play on the traditional lands and waters of the Hupacasath and Tseshaht First Nations Peoples. We join in celebrating Canada’s National Indigenous People’s Day, acknowledging our history and our bright future together. We're proud of our shared community and partnerships with Tseshaht First Nation , Hupačasath First Nation , Huu-ay-aht First Nations , Uchucklesaht Tribe and the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council. Our new logo includes a symbol of a salmon, this image was commissioned by local artist Tia Dudoward and is particularly meaningful as it embodies the notion that we are all one and connected. Tia is a new artist and thought this would be a great opportunity to get her work out there. She is originally from Lax Kw’alaams (Prince Rupert) and has been living in the Alberni Valley for the past 14 years. Thanks to Tia for creating this image for us, we are so grateful for her beautiful artwork in our new branding. It is reflecting our commitment to unity and collaboration within our community and beyond. It felt like summer had officially arrived in Port Alberni last night at the COAST (Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies) meet and greet for innovators, industry leaders and collaborators in BC's ocean and marine industries. With its beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the Alberni inlet and habour, you couldn't have picked a more perfect venue for an ocean and marine event than The Starboard Grill. Thanks to Brad DeClercq at Starboard and the entire COAST team for hosting a fantastic evening! As a networking event, the formal presentations were rightly kept very short. However, I appreciated the gracious welcome message from Chief Ken Watts on behalf Tseshaht First Nation, who noted that it was only the second time he had attempted to deliver such a message in his native language. Councillor Debbie Haggard from the City of Port Alberni also spoke briefly, highlighting the Alberni Valley's existing assets and potential for further ocean and marine development. This includes a grant of nearly $3 million from the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Food, announced earlier this month, to help the Port Alberni Port Authority to expand the seafood processing capabilities at The Port Alberni Food Hub , The Dock . You can read more about that project here: https://lnkd.in/gSEHqWvJ It was great to connect with Julie Sperber, Pat Deakin, Dan Stelck, Jason Goldsworthy and many others, including Jolleen Dick who captured this photo for us. I chuckled when I saw it as clearly I was the only one who forgot my sunglasses! #vancouverisland #portalberni #blueeconomy #oceaneconomy #pacificcoast #bcmarineindustries
