Most of the over 10 000 dogs used in research in Canada are euthanized after study. Even though the U.S. is ahead of Canada in animal protection and legislation, most are also euthanized. It is hard to imagine, given that once released, these beautiful souls go on to live the lives we all believe dogs deserve - like Blue, enjoying his very first boat ride, after years of harm and confinement. Could AI put an end to animal testing? This is the question asked by the BBC in their recent and informative article. Most will agree that animal testing will not end overnight, but also agree that AI is a promising avenue for sifting through data, determining chemical toxicity, and even creating new drugs.
