DIALOG, along with our collaborators Smoke Architecture Inc., EllisDon, and our client Centennial College, attended the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) awards ceremony this past Thursday, May 23 to accept the 2024 Design Excellence Award for the Centennial College A-Building Expansion. We are thrilled to share this incredible time-lapse video of Centennial College's A Building which has recently been awarded the LEED Gold Certification by the CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council! 🏆 Completed last summer, this stunning building is not only Ontario's first Mass Timber Institutional building but also Canada's first Mass Timber Higher Education building. It's also designed with Zero Carbon and WELL Silver certifications, making it a true leader in sustainable design. Beautiful work done by DIALOG for the design of Centennial College's A Building, we're eager to share the special parts such as the incredible Indigenous design credited to Smoke Architecture Inc., expresses the principles of Two-Eyed Seeing. Centennial College has also taken concrete steps towards inclusivity by ensuring all Gender-Neutral washrooms are available on each floor and created a new Multi-Faith Prayer Room with separate male and female ablution rooms. We are honoured to be part of a community that values inclusivity, sustainability, and Indigenous culture. Join us for the “RAIC Climate Action Plan- Supporting the Transformation of Practice” session on May 17th at the 2024 RAIC Conference on Architecture in Vancouver for a thought-provoking discussion on unlocking accelerated action on climate change. Industry experts Mona Lemoine and Martin Nielsen from DIALOG, Eladia Smoke from Smoke Architecture Inc., Michel Labrie, and Joanne Perdue will lead the session and share their insights and experiences with building a culture of design for climate and ecological health and how their firms are developing leadership skills to accelerate positive change. The session will also include a brief overview of the RAIC’s draft Climate Action Plan, which was informed by a nationwide consultation with over 600 participants. Back in February SAI held our 3rd annual Strategic Plan Retreat. We took the week to regroup and discuss our next moves as a team. We also took some time to enjoy nature, have some fun, and celebrate our 10 year anniversary. It is always such a treat to have our entire team together and allow ourselves the time to disconnect from the everyday and regroup. The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has revealed Centennial College A-Building Expansion as a Finalist in the 2024 Design Excellence Awards! The DIALOG project, in collaboration with Smoke Architecture Inc., represents creativity and sustainability, showcasing the possibilities for the built environment and the transformative influence that resilient design has.
