Today, it is our pleasure to celebrate one of Shift Health’s newest Engagement Leaders, Helen Luck, PhD! Congratulations on your well-earned advancement to the role. Helen joined the #ShiftHealthTeam as an intern in 2019, bringing an open mind, creative spirit and sharp analytical skills. Over the past 5 years, Helen has emerged as an agile leader of some of our most complex files, guiding the development of a regional public health agency in the Gulf, establishing foundational research strategies in numerous hospital and academic settings, and shaping care pathways for Parkinson's Disease in Canada, among others. Helen also lent her design talent to the team that guided our fabulous office renovation and is always willing to provide an honest critique of a chocolate chip cookie. Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day! On this day, we learn more about the diverse and enriching stories, cultures, aspirations and ways of knowing and being that Indigenous Peoples contribute to our world. This year, National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrates Indigenous languages, cultures and art. In keeping with this focus, Shift Health would like to bring awareness to the importance of art and its connection to promoting wellbeing in Indigenous communities. The 2012 National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health (NCCIH) publication "Art and Wellness: The Importance of Art for Aboriginal Peoples' Health and Healing" highlights the following: • Cultural Connection and Identity: Traditional art forms are passed down through generations. Engaging with these art forms strengthens connections to cultural identity and heritage, providing a sense of belonging and grounding. • Community Strength and Resilience: Art is often a communal activity, fostering connections and shared experiences within Indigenous communities. This sense of belonging and support is crucial for mental wellbeing, especially when facing challenges. • Bridge Between Cultures: Indigenous art appreciation by non-Indigenous people creates opportunities for understanding and cultural exchange. This can help address the power imbalances that contribute to mental health struggles. Let's work together to integrate traditional art forms and other practices into holistic wellness, fostering a more inclusive system for all communities. By recognizing and valuing the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities, we can enhance overall wellbeing and support more equitable health outcomes. The Shift Health Team continues our commitment to a sustainable Toronto!    In what is becoming an annual tradition, our team hit the streets this year to clean up Rosedale Valley Road.  The road, often used by cyclists and hikers, winds alongside the beautiful Rosedale Valley.    At Shift Health, environmental responsibility is a core value, and park cleanups are just one way we show our commitment to a greener future. A big thank you to all the Shift Health team members who came out and participated in this year's event!      #ShiftHealthGreenTeam #RosedaleValleyRoad #CleanUp

Steeped in Tradition: Celebrating Asian Heritage Month with a Tea Tasting! As we celebrate #AsianHeritageMonth and this month’s theme of Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future: Amplifying Asian Canadian Legacy, we think about tea as a symbolic representation of tradition. Tea holds immense cultural and historical significance across Asia, with traditions passed down through generations. Last week the team participated in a tea tasting led by our in-house tea master, Jonsson Liu! On why tea is important to him, he says “Growing up, tea was everywhere--the perfect way to start the day, the beverage of choice during family gatherings, the ideal companion for a good book on a rainy day. In every sip of tea, I find a sense of belonging and pride, a simple yet profound way to celebrate and preserve my Asian Canadian identity."  During the tasting, our team had the opportunity to sample a variety of teas, from delicate green teas to robust oolongs, each with its unique aroma and taste. We also learned about the origins of each tea and how it's traditionally prepared.   Celebrate #AsianHeritageMonth with a cup of tea! #teastasting #asianculture #culturalexploration #teatime #celebratediversity #ShiftHealth
