At WZMH Architects and our research and development lab, sparkbird, innovation is in our DNA. Back in 2017, our team at sparkbird started with a cardboard mockup, testing out a vision to transform building infrastructure. Just a few months later, after Microsoft saw our second mockup, we were invited to their IoT & AI Insiders Lab, where the Intelligent Structural Panel (ISP) evolved further. This modular structural floor system now redefines "plug-and-play" buildings, seamlessly integrating digital and electrical systems through built-in ports. Fast forward to today, our ISP is ready to be installed in Toronto's Smart Campus Integration & Testing Hub (SCITHub) at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) — a groundbreaking project where our panels will enable full digital connectivity in a truly one-of-a-kind, future-ready building. This journey from vision to reality took years of commitment, countless prototypes, and a lot of perseverance. With the building’s groundbreaking already taking place, we’re thrilled to see the ISP come to life, with completion expected next year! We’ll be sharing updates as our panels are installed and the building takes shape. And it doesn’t stop here — since the ISP, Sparkbird has developed 50 products and ideas, continuously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in design and construction. Justin Fortino, our Site Superintendent , recently provided an update on the construction progress at Curio Condos in South Etobicoke. Tour the second floor where key amenities such as the party room, fitness studio, yoga room, and co-working space will be located. With construction advancing to the 9th floor and the 8th floor nearing completion, the installation of precast and windows will soon begin. Following this, the exterior façade will begin to take shape. Curio Condos, situated between Islington and Royal York, will offer 206 units with a variety of layouts, including studio, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom suites. This midrise condomium is one of 4 sites in Marlin Spring's Etobicoke portfolio which on full completion, will contribute over 1,000 homes to the community.
