Vice President, Communications & Corporate Affairs at Pure Sunfarms

As we approach September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I’d like to share something that I hold very close to my heart as a leader at Pure Sunfarms and as an individual.   Our team at Pure Sunfarms recently had the great privilege and honour to work closely with incredibly talented Indigenous artists in our community to bring Indigenous-inspired artwork to our office space. These pieces are not only breathtaking, but they have challenged us to inspire new conversations, new thinking, and ideas. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve witness our team members stop and really take time with these pieces, to learn about the artists and their stories. On this very important day, this is more valuable than ever as we reflect as a society, as a company, as individuals, on what this day truly means and how we can do better.   Thank you KC Hall, Derek Edenshaw, Micheal Langan, Mary Archie, Tom Dickson Jr., and Corey Bulpitt for your incredible work and sharing your wisdom with us in ways to keep our minds and hearts open. Proud to see our VP of Comms & Corporate Affairs Julia Cameron take the stage to represent Pure Sunfarms at this year’s Summer Sesh Cannabis Conference hosted in Richmond, BC. Sitting on the “Makers Making it to Market” panel, the conversation surrounded how processors and producers have found success in Canadian cannabis. Shout out to Janis Risbin CPA, CMA from Rubicon Organics, a fellow participant at the conference and a member of the Cannabis Council of Canada. Engaging in these conversations is vital for driving industry progress, sharing knowledge, and showcasing the expertise we bring.

Since 2021, we’ve been on a journey with Langara College’s Applied Research Centre (ARC) to uncover insights and enhance processes as part of our relentless commitment to quality. Our latest project focuses on setting a new standard for cannabis flower colour, emphasizing its role in indicating freshness and quality. Using ultraviolet-visible spectrometry, we’re gaining insights into cultivars like the most consumed strain, Pink Kush by Pure Sunfarms. By combining industry expertise with bright young minds, we are discovering new possibilities for quality cannabis, together.

If you are a Licensed Producer of cannabis in Canada, we encourage you to take the Cannabis Council of Canada’s 2024 Excise Tax Survey by August 28 so the full impact of the current excise tax framework can be understood.
