Today we celebrated and recognized the people of Prince George who keep Canada moving and their vital contributions to our communities and economy. Many people don't realize the wide variety of professions that keep an airport, and our national aviation system, running smoothly. Here are just a few: • Customer service representatives • Security personnel • Baggage handlers • Mechanics • Flight attendants • Air traffic controllers • Pilots • Janitorial staff • Transportation security officers This was the first inaugural National Airport Workers Day and was a coordinated, national event led by the Canadian Airport Council (CAC). YXS celebrated the airport community with a BBQ at the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Hall where guests could tour the new state-of-the-art runway sweeper and the Rosenbauer Panther fire truck. YXS really showed up! In fact, so many wonderful faces came out that we ran out of food (and we had enough to feed over 100 people). We'll be better prepared for next year and can't wait to do it all over again. With 6,000 tickets to sell for the Prince George Firefighters Harley Davidson Raffle in support of the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, of course, we said, "YES, we want to help!" 😊 🎈 It was a fun day joining forces with Vista Radio for an hour while we worked our contact lists for donations and we also got to enjoy the BBQ. 🌭 🍔 🎉 We're happy to report that the raffle tickets sold out. 🤗 That's 6,000 tickets @ $20 each, equating to $120,000.00! The Cause - a Giraffe Omni-Station. A full-featured incubator and radiant warmer that eliminates the stress of moving critically ill infants from bed to bed, all the while nurturing the close connection between babies and their caregivers. On February 21, 2024, we celebrated a truly historic occasion at the Prince George Airport as we raised the Lheidli T'enneh flag outside the terminal. This event marks a significant step forward in our journey towards truth and reconciliation. In the presence of esteemed leaders and community members, we came together to symbolize our commitment to honoring and respecting Indigenous culture. Permanently flying the Lheidli T'enneh flag at the YXS terminal is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a tangible representation of our dedication to acknowledging the rich history and contributions of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, the original caretakers of this land. As we move forward with the YXS Indigenous Heritage Project we aim to continue fostering meaningful dialogue, understanding, and partnership with Indigenous communities.
