About us

The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) provides leadership as a regional economic driver and a gateway for passengers and cargo by providing exceptional customer service and facilities. The PGAA assumed operational control of the airport on March 31st, 2003. The Authority immediately set into motion an aggressive business plan with the main focus on building an airport which supports the needs of its region's residents, facilitating growth in tourism and industry, while attracting air services long considered necessary for this region's growth. YXS is home to the 4th longest commercial runway in Canada at 11,450 ft. The runway extension was completed in 2009 at a cost of thirty six million dollars split between the Provincial & Federal Governments and The PGAA. Passenger numbers for 2021 exceeded 201,506 as traffic started to come back as Covid-19 travel restrictions eased. Customers have access to flights from WestJet, Air Canada, Central Mountain Air, Flair, and Pacific Coastal Airlines as well as charter services to most points in Northern and Central BC. During the winter months Flair offers weekly flights to Tucson, Arizona. A 600,000 litre common storage fuel facility opened up in 2012, while a 25,000 sq. ft. multi use cargo facility was constructed in 2015. • Today we celebrated and recognized the people of Prince George who keep Canada moving and their vital contributions to our communities and economy. Many people don't realize the wide variety of professions that keep an airport, and our national aviation system, running smoothly. Here are just a few: • Customer service representatives • Security personnel • Baggage handlers • Mechanics • Flight attendants • Air traffic controllers • Pilots • Janitorial staff • Transportation security officers This was the first inaugural National Airport Workers Day and was a coordinated, national event led by the Canadian Airport Council (CAC). YXS celebrated the airport community with a BBQ at the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Hall where guests could tour the new state-of-the-art runway sweeper and the Rosenbauer Panther fire truck. YXS really showed up! In fact, so many wonderful faces came out that we ran out of food (and we had enough to feed over 100 people). We'll be better prepared for next year and can't wait to do it all over again. Thank you Mayor Yu for joining us in acknowledging YXS airport workers and thank you Kevin Loewen, Constituency Assistant in Prince George - Valemount, for sharing accolades and the kind message on behalf of MLA Shirley Bond. #AirportWorkersDay #FlyYXS #YXSBBQ #AirportCommunity #AirportLife #AirCanada #CentralMountainAir #PacificCoastalAirlines #WestJet #AirportCareers

  • On February 21, 2024, we celebrated a truly historic occasion at the Prince George Airport as we raised the Lheidli T'enneh flag outside the terminal. This event marks a significant step forward in our journey towards truth and reconciliation. In the presence of esteemed leaders and community members, we came together to symbolize our commitment to honoring and respecting Indigenous culture. Permanently flying the Lheidli T'enneh flag at the YXS terminal is more than a symbolic gesture. It is a tangible representation of our dedication to acknowledging the rich history and contributions of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, the original caretakers of this land. As we move forward with the YXS Indigenous Heritage Project we aim to continue fostering meaningful dialogue, understanding, and partnership with Indigenous communities. YXS and the Prince George Airport Authority extend their deepest gratitude to Chief Dolleen Logan (Lheidli T'enneh), CEO Colin Carson (Tourism Prince George), and everyone who played a part in making this moment possible. #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousCulture #YXS #CommunityUnity
