There is a new park #atthewaterfront! Bathurst Quay Common, a 1-acre park located adjacent to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the waterfront officially opened on Friday, providing residents and visitors alike with a vibrant new public space to enjoy. This new park also serves as a welcoming gateway into the downtown core for visitors to Toronto arriving from #YTZ. PortsToronto and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport were pleased to play a part in bringing this vision to life including contributing $3.5M in important infrastructure and construction improvements to the Eireann Quay and Canadian Malting Silos site, reducing our mainland footprint, and reconfiguring mainland operations to ensure this park could be realized. Congratulations to Bryan Bowen, City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and all the waterfront stakeholders involved in opening the waterfront’s latest park.

The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is a vital asset for Toronto, Ontario and Canada. At a time when Mayor Olivia Chow is wisely focused on bringing jobs and economic growth to Toronto's downtown, it's time for a sensible discussion to secure the airport's long-term future. That was my message in my presentation to the Mayor's Executive Committee today, with the strong backing of the members of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. With urgent upgrades required to meet Transport Canada - Transports Canada standards by 2027, the airport needs the "runway" to make these large, long-term investments. It needs longer-term clarity on its lease, which is currently set to expire in 2033. Research tells us that the people of Toronto and beyond strongly support the airport's continuity. I also believe an efficient, increasingly sustainable airport can co-exist with a clean, green waterfront. Indeed, it already does. Let's get this done. #toronto #billybishop #airport #growth #ontario #chamberofcommerce #teamontario

On this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, PortsToronto reaffirms its commitment to honour the Survivors of the residential school system, their families, and communities. PortsToronto is taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation and inclusivity, including integrating Indigenous art into public spaces. Most recently, we unveiled Shagi, a mural at the Port of Toronto by Anishnabek artist Que Rock, that stands as a powerful symbol of Indigenous culture, welcoming visitors in a space where they can first encounter our community. This mural acts as a bridge between cultures. It invites visitors to learn about Indigenous heritage and fosters a deeper appreciation for the land we all share. Thank you Que Rock for sharing this with us. Let us honour today and never forget #NDTR

Haul together now! The second annual Haul for Hope Plane Pull, in support of Hope Air took place at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport today. Seventeen teams competed to pull a Porter Airlines Inc. Q400 plane for 100 meters in record time, symbolizing the challenges patients face when travelling long distances for essential medical care. Congratulations to all Hope Air Haul for Hope participants, fundraisers, and partners who made this event possible and came together to support Hope Air’s mission to provide free medical travel for Canadians in need. It was a great day for an even greater cause.

Honoured to welcome Minister Anita Anand and MP James Maloney to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport this morning to announce the latest step toward U.S. Customs and Border Protection preclearance at #YTZ, and for a tour of the airport’s airfield and facilities. This tour offered a great opportunity to showcase what makes Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport an asset to the Toronto region, Ontario and Canada, and how the forthcoming preclearance facility will not only improve the passenger experience but also foster economic growth, create jobs, boost tourism and enhance trade and security between the U.S. and Canada.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is the ninth busiest airport in Canada and the fifth busiest serving the US, so we are particularly excited to be welcoming Preclearance to our airport, the first preclearance expansion since 2006. The ability to clear U.S. Customs on home soil will greatly enhance the passenger experience, and offer tremendous benefit to the City of Toronto and surrounding region as it will open new markets and amplify the benefits associated with the airport’s contribution to facilitating trade and tourism, creating jobs, supporting healthcare and driving innovation. We look forward to continued collaboration with all levels of government on both sides of the border to ensure Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport remains a vital piece of transportation infrastructure and an economic driver for Toronto and the surrounding region for many years to come.
Today, we were honoured to be joined by Minister Anita Anand, Ambassador David Cohen and Undersecretary of Homeland Security, Robert Silvers to announce the latest milestone toward delivering U.S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Preclearance at #YTZ will not only enhance the passenger experience but it will also welcome a new era of connectivity and convenience from the heart of downtown Toronto. Fittingly, this announcement comes on #worldtourismday. Tourism brings people together and preclearance at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport will further strengthen the connection between the U.S. and Canada, supporting bilateral trade and creating even more convenient access to the U.S. from #YTZ.

Thank you Mayor Olivia Chow and Councillor Michael Thompson for joining us at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport today to tour one of the airport's most striking public art exhibits, Ajani Charles' Project T-Dot, and to meet many of the Team YTZ staff that make this airport one of the best. This visit was an opportunity to showcase the airport's role as a connector -- connecting our community to culture and art, and to the destinations they want to visit. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport moves more than 2 million people each year, contributes an annual $2.1 billion in total economic output, is one of North America's most walkable and bikeable airports, and is powered by renewable electricity. Our passengers have given us a 98% satisfaction rating, and 77% of Torontonians agree that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is a valuable asset for Toronto and an important gateway that supports business and tourism. And, with the introduction of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance in 2025 and the new markets and streamlined passenger experience that this new facility will bring – we are making what is already great, even better.
