  • Ontario Tech Alumni Uni Lee is currently working in engineering at Enbridge Gas in North York, Ontario, within the Transmission Integrity Engineering department. She thoroughly enjoyed their Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at Ontario Tech University. While completing her BEng of Mechanical Engineering, she interned at Wonderland, Toronto Hydro, and the ACE wind tunnel. Uni credits the courses and internships provided by Ontario Tech for helping them secure a job after graduation. Her advice to incoming students? Get as much work experience as possible while still in school! #engineering #ontariotechu #CareerSuccess #feas

The Ontario Energy Network is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2024 academic scholarships. The winners are all very impressive and many of them are clearly pursuing an exciting career in the energy sector – quite possibly with an OEN member! We are particularly pleased to announce a repeat winner, as the 2021 winner of the Nuclear Studies Scholarship, Zoe Michanos, has continued her education at the post-graduate level and is this year’s winner of the Dr. Ron Oberth Advanced Energy Studies Scholarship, sponsored by Bruce Power. The OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship, sponsored by Alectra, has been awarded to Yazan Zamel, a University of Toronto Masters of Engineering Science student. Our Women in Energy Scholarship winner, sponsored by the OEB, is Pritika Thevakanthan, a McMaster University Engineering student. The OEN Indigenous Energy Scholarship, sponsored by the IESO, has been awarded to Joseph Weston, an Engineering student at the University of Calgary. Finally, Isaac Smith, an Engineering student at Ontario Technical University, receives the OEN-Bruce Power Nuclear Studies Scholarship. Thanks to all the outstanding member organizations that support the scholarship program. All of our scholarship recipients have been invited to a future OEN networking event, where we can publicly recognize them for their achievements.

Computer Science Co-Op Student | Concurrent Education | Lifelong Volunteer| Leverages technology to support, entertain, and educate thousands

Have you ever wondered, "where can Engineering take you" Well, that's exactly the mission of Ontario Tech University Engineering Outreach. The number one thing that dictates one's future education is exposure. And Engineering Outreach exposes grades 1-12 students to interactive STEM workshops, completions, clubs, and camps. Over the past year, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a highschool program instructor at Engineering Outreach. Here's some of the things I got up to during the year: My first main club was a virtual reality club using the Meta Quest 2. It was incredibly interesting seeing how I can turn a tool that's primarily used for entertainment into something that could be educational. I ended up talking about how businesses will be using extended reality in the future of the workplace. My experience of Wavemakers and Unity development definitely helped me create a fun and worthwhile experience for the kids. My next few events were a lot of competitions/hackathons. The official Ontario Tech Annual Robotics Competition, the ZumiMaze Automous Delivery competition, Mathstronauts' STEM HACKS, and the STEMentreprenur competition that my lovely friends at Brilliant Catalyst helped a lot with. If there's anything I learned at Engineering Outreach, it's that nothing is perfect on its first try. I learned a lot from watching large-scale events like the aforementioned competitions. The highschool team at Engineering Outreach made so much revisions to previous and future programs during the year. One of my favourite things I got to work on is developing an official Artificial Intelligence microcredit for highschool students. I specifically advocated and created Artificial Intelligence ethics modules. There's tons of programs I can't mention fully on this LinkedIn post. From sustainability clubs using Microbits and Arduinos to developing my own C curriculum to operate the VEX Robotics EDR kits for FOUR camps. Also that one time I taught a classroom size of 120 Shad Canada kids. However, the biggest impact that mattered to me was something a student mentioned to me during one of my camps. At the beginning of the camp, the camper told me that she never really coded before. As someone who only started coding in grade 11, I fully related to her. I didn't even have a personal laptop until I entered university. With my students, I always think, "how can I afford better opportunities and experiences for my students". At the end of the camp, she coded pretty well (WAY better than I was at her age) and she wholeheartedly told me how passionate she was to enter the STEM field. I loved working with the wonderful Tazrian Tarfee, Haider Farooq, Ronald Paul, Nathanael Selvaraj, Maaz, Wasay Aamir my coworkers from other teams I want to extend my wholehearted gratitude to Ellen Istvan for initially taking a chance on me and my managers Zahraa Bassyouni and Alex.
