No tumour sample, no problem: Blood test predicts immunotherapy outcomes without biopsy. “Liquid biopsies have the potential to change how we screen for cancer and monitor the progress and cancer treatment,” says Dr. Trevor Pugh. “And assays like this, which don’t require a reference tumour sample, could help unlock that full potential.” https://lnkd.in/gRxW6YzJ #liquidbiopsies #cancerscreening #genomics #clinicaltrials

Cancer Solved Together
About us
Each year, more than 14 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and more than eight million people die from the disease. New tools are urgently needed to better prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer so that people can live longer and healthier lives. The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is a collaborative, not-for-profit research institute that conducts and enables high-impact translational cancer research to accelerate the development of discoveries for patients around the world while maximizing the economic benefit of this research for the people of Ontario. OICR is ensuring Ontario’s world-class cancer research findings are benefiting patients and the Ontario economy. Here’s how we make that happen: -We conduct cross-disciplinary research in fields such as genomics, immuno-oncology, informatics, drug discovery, and molecular pathology with partners in health care, research, government and the private sector; -We enable research in Ontario and worldwide by building collaborative networks, securely sharing data and making tools and resources available to the research community; -We translate our research findings to the clinic by developing clinical guidelines, supporting clinical trials and commercializing our innovations with our partner Fight Against Cancer Innovation Trust. Our vision Cancer Solved Together. Our mission Partner with the Ontario oncology community to accelerate the development and implementation of clinically important knowledge, products, services and policies to improve cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment and enable patients in Ontario and worldwide to live longer and better lives. We were pleased to have Elijah MacDonald, Mesai James, Jayson Pomfret and Ryan Gaudet, recipients of the BioCanRx Indigenous Summer Studentship, visit OICR for a tour of our labs. The studentship supports Indigenous undergraduate students in Canada with hands-on research or policy experience in cancer-related projects, aiming to enhance their participation in cancer research and careers through networking, mentorship, and practical experience opportunities. We are proud to help support this important initiative!

Congratulations to OICR's Dr. Trevor Pugh on receiving this funding to make important advances in screening for #LynchSyndrome! Ultimately, this project aims to reduce diagnosis time from 1-6 years to four months using liquid biopsy technology. 👏
Cancer is responsible for more than 1 in 4 deaths in Canada, with more than 600 new cases diagnosed daily. We've been investing in the diasease since inception and recently supported three new projects in the field through our #GAPP program. Women with dense breasts often have to undergo additional screening for breast cancer after a mammogram, usually in the form of an MRI. While effective, MRI scans are costly and wait times are long. That's why researchers in OICR's Imaging Program have created a new ultrasound technology that overcomes the limitations of mammography in imaging dense breasts. Watch to learn more about this remarkable innovation! #breastcancer #imaging #MRI #ultrasound

It’s not too late to sign up for the July 18 Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow's Health | Le partenariat canadien pour la santé de demain webinar, register today!
To kick off CanPath's 15th anniversary, Dr. Philip Awadalla and Dr. Marie-Julie Favé will describe the intricate interplay between genetic and environmental factors and their influence on chronic diseases and phenotypes, utilizing data from CanPath, Canada's largest population health cohort. By integrating genomic, environmental, and lifestyle data, Drs. Awadalla and Favé uncover how gene-environment interactions shape health outcomes. These findings illuminate disease mechanisms and potential interventions, highlighting the importance of large and rich population cohort data. This session is an opportunity to learn more about the complex dynamics that contribute to chronic disease development and how the research can help identify at-risk populations, supporting both personalized and public health strategies. Join us on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 2 pm!
