As space rapidly commercializes with the proliferation of space-faring nations & space missions, current norms are insufficient to ensure the sustainable use of the near-earth space. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's leadership in sponsoring economic and policy research is essential to resolving the risks of unfettered space development. We eagerly anticipate the reports of Richard Linares of Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Mark Moretto of University of Colorado Boulder, and Ryne Beeson of Princeton University to help us all make meaningful contributions to mitigate the challenges of growing space pollution. #SpaceSustainability
A new report from NASA’s Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy shows that we may have more cost-effective options to reduce the risk from orbital debris than previously thought. The study compares the cost-effectiveness of more than 10 different actions that can be taken to reduce the risk from orbital debris, such as shielding, tracking small debris, or remediating large debris. Eventually, the team hopes to assess the cost-effectiveness of combinations of different actions. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e7AaQC58
