The team at New Afton Mine welcomed 18 high school students for a tour as part of the Future Women in Mining event, introducing students to different career paths in the mining industry. The tour was in partnership with School District 73’s Discovery Day career exploration program which allows students to sign up for day trips to explore jobs that interest them. https://lnkd.in/gWEuiHdA

Across operations, we achieved a significant 50% reduction in water withdrawal in 2023. While this reduction of water is partially associated with below average precipitation conditions experienced at both sites, significant work was accomplished to also reduce the volume of new water required in operations. Water is an important resource for New Gold’s operations and our role in water stewardship forms a key component of our Sustainability Strategy. Prioritizing water management has the potential to not only improve operations but also create opportunities to help ensure better water quality and access in the communities where we operate. Both the New Afton and Rainy River mines continued implementing a range of energy conservation and reduction initiatives in 2023, resulting in an 8 percent reduction across operations in scope 1 and 2 emissions from our baseline year. As an organization, we continue to work towards our goal of a 30 percent reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030 (using 2020 as a baseline). New Gold recognizes the importance of adapting operations to mitigate climate change impacts across the organization and in the communities in which we operate.
