Last week, the NCA Network hosted its inaugural Career and Networking Summit, and it was such a success! With over 85 enthusiastic internationally trained lawyers in attendance, the day was packed with learning, mentorship, and connection! Our incredible panelists shared invaluable insights, and the feedback from the mentor sessions has been overwhelmingly positive! We are so grateful to our mentors and panelists for taking the day to share their stories and help others. One of the key takeaways from the event was the sense of community that emerged. Many participants voiced their feelings of isolation during the licensing journey, only to discover that they were not alone in their struggles. This realization highlighted the importance of connection and camaraderie, which is at the heart of the NCA Network. Our slogan, “Unity in Diversity” was truly brought to life last week, and it was inspiring to witness. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the day’s success! Here is our first SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT for the Career and Networking Summit on September 18, 2024 - Welcome Lynn Villeneuve, Deputy Director, National Committee on Accreditation, Federation of Law Societies of Canada! A little about Lynn: Lynn Villeneuve holds an LLB in Common Law from the University of Ottawa and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Until 2019 she held the position of Manager, Accreditation and CEAB Secretary at Engineers Canada where her responsibilities included oversight and support of the operations of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board’s activities, leadership for the team supporting on-site accreditation visits, and staff support for the Board and its committees. In 2019, she moved to the position of Deputy Director, National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) at the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. The NCA assesses the qualifications of individuals with legal education and professional experience obtained outside of Canada, or in a Canadian civil law program, who wish to be admitted to a common law bar in Canada. Ms. Villeneuve’s duties include credential evaluation and research on legal education and licensure systems.
