Vice President & Chief of Operations at NAV CANADA

I’m honored to have been representing NAV CANADA at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) World Safety and Operations Conference (WSOC) this week, where I joined two amazing panels. The first panel, “Future Skies & What is Required to Enable a System Change,” delved into how new entrants and automation will shape the future aviation ecosystem. I’m grateful to have shared insights alongside Ruby Sayyed, Eduardo García, parimal kopardekar, and Lisa Bee. Another highlight was the closing executive panel, “Capturing the Next Big Thing in Innovation and Technology,” where I joined industry leaders Yannick Vanhecke, Jesper Rasmussen, Pascal Tea and Mark Searle to discuss how aviation can stay agile in adopting breakthrough innovations within a regulatory framework. Chris Rieken and I had the opportunity to listen to many interesting panels, presentations, workshops and discussions. I encourage participation from ANSPs at these events, alongside airlines, regulators, and industry partners, to ensure we have a seat at the table in planning and understanding the needs for the future. As an ANSP my key priorities were collaboration, support (both tactical and strategic), and integration, all of which are essential to shaping the direction of the aviation industry. Change is imperative to continued safety and efficiency improvements - status quo is not an option if we want to be resilient and sustainable for the future!

I was proud to recently attend the 2024 Canadian HR Awards, where NAV CANADA was an Excellence Awardee for the Achievers Award for Best Reward and Recognition Strategy. We launched a new recognition strategy to the organization in 2023 and it was an honour to have the team's hard recognized. We look forward to the next steps in employee recognition at NAV CANADA! Today, Canadians wear orange shirts in observation of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day holds profound significance, offering a time for reflection, education and action towards healing the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in Canada. At NAV CANADA, reconciliation is an ongoing process that goes beyond September 30. By providing active learning opportunities for our employees, we continue to support and recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation allowing us to elevate DEIB discourse, develop inclusive communities, and lift barriers for an equitable workplace. On September 25, we were pleased to host a national event for our employees dedicated to commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, where an external guest spoke with 326 participants about our history and the structures that impact First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and each day onwards, we hope you recognize the unique role we each play in reconciliation and take the time to self-educate, reflect and get involved.

On September 18, I had the privilege of representing NAV CANADA at the 2024 Canadian HR Awards, alongside this wonderful group of colleagues. In 2023, we launched a multi-year recognition strategy with the vision of creating a culture of everyday recognition. We're thrilled to be recognized for our program, and proud to be an Excellence Awardee for the The Achievers Award for Best Reward & Recognition Strategy!
