  • Just Announced: Alyssa Martin is appointed Artistic Producer of Creative Action.    “A multi-faceted, innovative creator, Alyssa is a uniquely talented choreographer and generous mentor deeply connected to Toronto’s dance community.     Congratulations to Robert Binet on his appointment as Artistic Director and co-CEO of Fall For Dance North! Rob has been an integral member of The National Ballet of Canada's Artistic department for over a decade and and all of us wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter at FFDN. Appointed Choreographic Associate in 2013, Rob created several innovative works for the National Ballet such as the acclaimed #TheDreamersEverLeaveYouNBC, #OrpheusAliveNBC with an original score by Missy Mazzoli and the dance film #LakeMaligneNBC. He also created choreography for Karen Kain's celebrated new staging #SwanLakeNBC. His role expanded to Curator and Producer, Creative Action and Special Initiatives in 2021 and to Director of Artist Development Programmes in 2023.   • On this day 50 years ago, June 29, 1974, Mikhail Baryshnikov defected from the former USSR while on tour with the Bolshoi in Toronto. Following his defection, he appeared as a guest artist with The National Ballet of Canada many times between 1974 to 1978. Baryshnikov’s first televised performance after coming out of temporary seclusion was a CBC TV special of The National Ballet of Canada’s La Sylphide in July 1974.     Just announced: 2024/25 season promotions and awards! Hope Muir, Joan and Jerry Lozinski Artistic Director has promoted Hannah Galway to First Soloist, and Emerson Dayton, Keaton Leier and Isaac Wright to Second Soloist. As previously announced, Tirion Law has been promoted to Principal Dancer. First Soloist Jenna Savella is the 2023/24 recipient of the David Tory Award. Corps de Ballet members Monika Haczkiewicz and David Preciado are awarded the Patron Award of Merit by the Patrons' Council Committee of The National Ballet of Canada.
