Imagine there was a medical alert device that didn't rely on the user to push a button when they've fallen and need help, or even to remember to wear it. Well, our researchers at Geras Centre for Aging Research are testing a new device by tech company Chirp that's taken a whole new approach. Since majority of falls happen in the home, Chirp has designed an in-home monitoring device that uses sensors to track movement which connects to a family member or caregiver. The hope is that it can not only detect falls, but prevent them from happening.

In the world of radar-based activity recognition for aging in place, lab and simulated data have been the norm*. But at Chirp, we're all about real-world data for AI algorithms! In just 6 months since our inception, we deployed prototypes to our first home on May 1st, 2020, and we haven't stopped since! 🚀 Over 150 prototypes are now out there, making a difference for families and facilities. Our anonymized development dataset keeps growing, thanks to all our installations. 📈 A huge shoutout to Geras Centre for Aging Research for partnering with us and helping collect data from 21 homes, creating a unique dataset that combines in-clinic assessments with in-home data. 🤝 This collaboration is a game-changer!
