So excited to have our amazing team members running what will be an awesome session on who owns public space at the Evergreen Canada conference!
We often think of public spaces as third spaces, but they're also our first and second. They're the places we (re)claim to express ourselves, seek refuge and meet our most basic needs. How we take up this space, however, rubs up against tensions about who "owns" public spaces and who is allowed to make up the "public." In this workshopat the Evergreen Conference led by Eunice Wong and Keisha St. Louis-McBurnie from Monumental, we’ll explore how power, including ownership and governance, can be shared or shifted for our human experiences (like grief, joy, protest, belonging, relaxation) to rightfully take up space, and create more equitable and inclusive public spaces. Learn more and register for the Evergreen Conference this October 9 & 10: https://lnkd.in/gaKQ6pdd #EvergreenConference2024 #EvergreenBrickWorks #Toronto #PublicSpace #Placemaking

We're excited to finally be able to share our shortlisted design for a new park at 229 Richmond Street West, designed in collaboration with Paul Raff Studio and Trophic Design Inc.! Read more: dtah.com/news Imagine a lush verdant garden in the heart of the city. Imagine it is nestled within a large, sculpted landform—an open palm sculpted in stone. As a symbol of the animism of the earth, in cradling the garden, it guides us to care for nature. Surrounding the hand are mounds carrying plantings found within the oak woodland native to these lands. Inspired by Anishinaabe origin stories and the teachings of our grandparents, Nookomis Garden is a physical manifestation of the gifts we are offered by the natural world—the stone of the earth, the waters, the soil and the plants that nourish us.
