🚢 **Navigating Rough Waters: Potential Strike on the West Coast of Canada** 🚢 As we sail through 2024, our industry is once again facing the waves of uncertainty. The looming potential strike by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) at the West Coast ports of Canada has many of us on edge. This situation could ripple through the global supply chain, impacting businesses far and wide. 🛑 **Why Should We Care?** 🛑 The ports of British Columbia are crucial gateways for trade, handling a significant portion of Canada's imports and exports. A strike could disrupt the flow of goods, leading to delays, increased costs, and a strain on already stressed supply chains. From raw materials to consumer goods, the effects would be felt across various sectors, highlighting the interconnected nature of global trade. 💬 **"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." – Albert Einstein** 💬 While the potential strike poses challenges, it also presents an opportunity for us to re-evaluate our logistics strategies and build more resilient supply chains. Diversifying transportation routes, leveraging technology for better supply chain visibility, and fostering strong relationships with alternative logistics partners can help mitigate the impact. MELLOHAWK Logistics Inc. is keeping all our clients informed on this current situation as communication is crucial at this time. 🤝 **Standing Together** 🤝 At times like these, collaboration and communication are paramount. Industry stakeholders, from manufacturers to retailers, need to stay informed and work together to navigate these turbulent times. Proactive planning and open dialogue with logistics partners can make a significant difference. 📢 **Call to Action** 📢 To our fellow industry professionals: Let’s stay united and prepared. Share your insights, strategies, and solutions to help each other weather this storm. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and emerge stronger. https://lnkd.in/ghSc4AQX #strike #Logistics #SupplyChain #PortStrike #CanadaTrade #ILWU #BCMEA #GlobalTrade #Resilience #IndustryCollaboration #mellohawklogistics #ciffa #strike #mellohawklogistics

New N.B. pathway for internationally trained doctors Internationally trained doctors whose credentials aren’t recognized in Canada now have a path to enter the provincial health system as “clinical assistants” making at least $146,000 a year. The province announced the move on Friday morning at a press conference at Fredericton’s hospital, where the first four positions have been posted. Up to 24 positions will be created over the next three years; 14 will be in Horizon hospitals, and the other 10 will be in Vitalité hospitals. The positions will be spread across the province, are exclusively based in hospitals, and workers will be constantly supervised. https://lnkd.in/g6scmeAK

from our CIFFA E-bulletin: " “Get Back to the Table,” O’Regan Tells Seaway and Union Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan took to social media to tell the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) and Unifor they need to resume bargaining. O’Regan posted on X, saying he had taken calls with both sides, and they need to resume talks. Over 350 Unifor workers are on strike at the Seaway, shutting down the waterway to commercial traffic since October 22. Interesting decision by FMC in USA against MSC... "FMC throws out ‘unjustified' congestion charge complaint against MSC" " The US Federal Maritime Commission has dismissed the latest case against the world’s largest container line, MSC – a decision that could set a benchmark for other shippers. The case was brought by SOFi Paper Products, which received a congestion surcharge of $1,000, but claimed MSC could not justify it. The FMC’s Office of Enforcement said: “Given the possibility that the surcharge may have been levied upon more of MSC’s customers in addition to SOFi since the enactment of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 . . .such an undertaking would arguably be to the benefit of all members of the shipping public who may have been billed by MSC for this ambiguous surcharge subsequent to the enactment of OSRA 2022”.
