We had a great time working with UNB Research Institute in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to partner on UNB Off-site Construction Research Centre's fantastic #TCOT2024 event!

We were proud to host our third annual Tech for Teaching retreat last week in Fredericton! We welcomed over 100 teachers, tech leads, and community partners to collaborate and learn from each other on the possibilities for tech and digital integration in the classroom and the tools to support students that wish to pursue digital career pathways. Thank you to our partners at Government of New Brunswick / Gouvernement du Nouveau-Brunswick Department of Education & Early Childhood Development's Digital Learning and System Excellence team and the New Brunswick Centres of Excellence for their support of this conference; our friends at the UNB Faculty of Computer Science for hosting sessions and tours on the second day; the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity for offering tours for our guests; and Dell Technologies & Thales for hosting incredible sessions alongside so many inspiring educators.

We were thrilled to join the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) and Ulnooweg Education Centre in welcoming Reeta Roy, President & CEO of the Mastercard Foundation to New Brunswick for a tour of JEDI’s Fabrication Lab and an engagement session at the Maqiyahtimok Centre in St. Mary’s First Nation to hear from local Indigenous leaders on how we can continue to build and work towards reconciliation through our ongoing collaboration. The Mastercard Foundation is a major supporter of Project Makerspace, which will bring a mobile unit to Indigenous communities around New Brunswick that is designed to deliver unique STEAM learning opportunities to Indigenous youth. Thank you to the FabLab students for sharing their work with us, Chief Allan Polchies Jr. for hosting the engagement session, and to all the community leaders who joined us for this important visit.

"A central tenet that is essential to reaching all New Brunswick is finding ways to engage our province’s Indigenous youth. How do we reach Indigenous communities around the province and provide them with the tools and resources that reflect their unique experiences and culture and to provide accessible pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) when many of these areas that have been excluded from accessing the infrastructure and resources necessary for digital education? We believe one of the best ways is to engage with the communities, learn about their unique needs, and build a resource that can provide enriching support and offer a new STEAM learning space. This is what we hope to accomplish with Project Makerspace, a joint effort between the McKenna Institute, the Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI), and the Ulnooweg Education Centre, that will provide a learning space designed by and for Indigenous communities."
