What a week at Google HQ in Menlo Park! We loved working with the inaugural AI First startup cohort to help craft their pitches and build their demo day presentations. Cheers to Matt Ridenour and Laura Armstrong for another great cohort. Google for Startups #DemoDay #startup #scaleup #AI #WatchThisSpace

The LSS team flexed their golf skills (or lack thereof) Tuesday at the Golden Jubilee Charity Golf Tournament at Glen Abbey, held in honour of our client Jacinta Whyte, Deputy Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group and General Manager & Chief Agent for Ecclesiastical Insurance Office plc (Canada), in celebration of her incredible 50-year career in the insurance industry. The tournament was hosted by the Canadian Osteogenesis Imperfecta Society in support of the Dr. Francis Glorieux Research Fellowship. #COIS #GivingBack

"As academics, we don't like questions" - it was a brilliant insight coming out of Friday's workshop. PhDs strive to do everything they can to provide all of the necessary information required on a given subject matter. As a result, we end up with presentations that are more text book than pitch. And this ultimately scares off investors and audiences, vs. enticing them to learn more. A great presentation should support your efforts and help bring your ideas to life in a clear and engaging way. Your deck should be designed to start a conversation, persuade, and add credibility. Whether it's a sale, fundraiser, or partnership, you will be the one who ends up closing the deal at the end of the day - not your materials. Don’t be afraid to start a conversation. https://lnkd.in/effmqY3C #Scaleup #Startup #Biotech #Lifescience #HealthTech #UK
Last week we were thrilled to host Alex Gould of Long Story Short for a bespoke 'Life's a Pitch' workshop. Entrepreneurs, founders, academics and early career researchers from accelerators, incubators, and company builders around Cambridge including the Sanger Start-Up School, and beyond Cambridge - including as far as Newcastle - came along to hear what Alex had to say. He related pitching to speed-dating with the focus on getting to the second date and emphasised the importance of story telling because "the right story can help impact" and “emotion is part of every great story”. Alex's experience of working in the UK and US means he understands how to pitch for the different audiences and he said that the key to pitching is the "need to understand your audience". Huge thanks for their help in coordinating this event must go to Jennie R., Emily Boyce, Natalie Duggett, Francois Meullenet, Marco Delise, PhD, Alexandra Huener, Emma Fox, Jo Mills and Sam Dods. Our Managing Director, Alex Gould was live at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, UK to work with some of Britain's top biotech start-ups on all things storytelling and pitching today. Stay tuned for day 2! https://lnkd.in/eD2gCVrw #healthscience #biotech #uk #tedlasso
We’ve been looking forward to this ‘Life’s a pitch’ session with Alex Gould from @Long Short Story, New York for months. Today, with invited colleagues from numerous companies and academic organisations across Cambridge and the UK, it’s finally arrived! 🌟First up: note that we suffer from the ‘curse of knowledge’ - cognitive bias where we believe everyone knows as much as we do about our subject matter. For anyone still skeptical about the power of branding, let's pour one out for disbelief and raise a can to Liquid Death, which just hit a jaw-dropping valuation of $1.4 billion. Yes, you read that right. It’s water. In a can. This isn't just a lesson in hydration; it's a masterclass in how to stand out in the most crowded of markets. For companies looking to make their mark, remember: your brand's story and presentation can be as critical as the product itself. Embrace the bold, the unique, and the unexpected. And if you thought a product as simple as water couldn't make waves, it's time to drink in the reality: with the right branding, even the simplest product can become a market dominator. #brand #strategy #positioning

"Most of the marketing budget is now going toward the top-of-funnel efforts to meet volume demand, building that lead pool and hoping they can be moved toward the bottom of the funnel by nurturing efforts. And this brings us to the marketing fundamentals gap. This process of gathering leads at the top and moving them to the bottom is mechanical and ignores how brand awareness develops into active demand. It also creates budget allocation that prevents that from happening." https://lnkd.in/gFV6U5x4 Thanks to Mercedes Gilroy for surfacing this great article. #MarTech #Marketing #B2B
