Did you know that a mere 1% increase in literacy rates can lead to a staggering 3% improvement in GDP? 🌐 📖 Literacy isn't just about reading and writing; it's a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and prosperity. When people can read and write, they unlock new opportunities and contribute to their communities. 🌱 It's clear that investments in education and literacy have a ripple effect on our economy. Higher literacy rates lead to a more skilled workforce, which, in turn, drives economic productivity and innovation. 📊 Studies consistently show that countries with higher literacy rates have more robust economies. It's a win-win situation - individuals prosper through enhanced opportunities, and the nation reaps the benefits of a stronger GDP. 🚀 So, let's champion literacy initiatives, support educational programs, and advocate for policies that promote literacy for all. Together, we can not only change lives but also supercharge our economy. 💪 🔗 Let's connect and collaborate to make a difference! 🤝 Learn more in this report ("Literacy Lost") from the Canadian West Foundation: https://lnkd.in/etNFQpBt #LiteracyMatters #EconomicGrowth #EducationForAll #LinkedInPost #GDP #Prosperity #LiteracyUnlimited #Literacy #LiteracyEmpowers #LiteracyForAll #LearnToRead #Reading #WestIsland #WestIslandLiteracy #LiteracyWestIsland

FREE one-on-one tutoring and community literacy programs for adults in the West Island of Montreal and surrounding areas
About us
48% of adult Canadians have literacy skills below a high school level. Literacy Unlimited is a community organization dedicated to changing lives through improved adult literacy. We recruit, train, and support volunteers from the community to deliver programs to help learners to reach their personal, educational and employment goals. Literacy Unlimited has more than 40 years of serving the West Island community’s literacy needs. The quality of life of hundreds of adult learners and their families has been improved by the invaluable contributions of the organization and its volunteers. I went home and found a letter that I had kept for 9 years because I couldn’t read it back then. This time I read it and knew what it said. Literacy Unlimited set me free. I am not afraid anymore. Thank you Liberty Tutoring for providing an invaluable and engaging experience for kids. And also thank you for thinking of us as well. <3
With over 20 years of tutoring experience, we've seen how mastering reading is essential to success in every subject, even Math - yes, Math! So, this summer we've created an engaging French Reading Adventures program led by the fantastic Mirela Yaneva. It's not just about saving brains from vacation mode and nurturing a great habit, but also boosting language skills, and even empathy! 📚 🌞 ⛱ Plus, for each student who signs up we are donating $5 to Literacy Unlimited to support adults’ literacy. Mirela is telling more about the program in this video. Message us for more info!

📚🌟 Meet Carolyn Stevens, a Literacy Unlimited Hero! 🌟📚 We’re excited to highlight Carolyn Stevens, one of our dedicated volunteer tutors since 2018. With her unwavering support, her learner achieved a major milestone—passing the driver’s license exam! Carolyn’s learner couldn’t be happier, praising her as a huge help and a constant source of encouragement. Sadly, Carolyn is moving to Prince Edward Island, but her impact will remain. We wish her the best in her new adventures! 💖 Read the full blog to learn more about Carolyn’s inspiring journey: https://ow.ly/HBSK50SfG4N #VolunteerSpotlight #LiteracyUnlimited #MakeADifference #VolunteerWithUs #CommunityHeroes

Great walkathon to support mental health for Lakeshore Hospital. Every little bit counts. Did you know that mental health is directly impacted by low literacy? Mayor Alex Bottausci, MBA (centre), thanks for championing such an important cause. #literacyunlimited #lakeshorehospitalfoundation

📚✨ Maple Grove Elementary School (Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) and Literacy Unlimited teamed up for an amazing Literacy event! 🎉 At the "All Nations Family Literacy Night," families enjoyed a fun-filled evening celebrating reading and diversity. From engaging activities to choosing books representing various cultures, it was a joyful event thanks to the efforts of Maple Grove staff and Literacy Unlimited. Our Executive Director, Julia Asselstine, had this to say: "Literacy comes in many forms, starting with reading, writing and numeracy. In this knowledge-based era, without strong literacy skills people fall through the cracks of life. A book that a child connects with can be the catalyst for lifelong learning. In the embrace of literacy, we also find bonds that knit a community together. Here’s to Maple Grove Elementary, where dreams take flight on the wings of literacy!" You can read more in the link: https://lnkd.in/eBJBNBSy You can support initiatives like this by making a donation to Literacy Unlimited on our website: literacyunlimtied.ca A big thank you to everyone involved! Let's keep the tradition going strong! 🌍📖 #LiteracyWeek #Community #ReadingIsFun #FamilyLiteracy #LiteracyUnlimited #LiteracyWestIsland

A heartfelt thank you for joining us at our 'Under the Cover' fundraiser on April 10! Your presence made it a resounding success. The enlightening conversation between Nita Prose and Trudie Mason showcased the power of literature and empathy in our society. The reality is stark: 45% of West Island residents have literacy levels below what is needed to graduate from high school. We're committed to change! Literacy empowers lives and fuels our knowledge-based world. Your support drives our mission for Literacy for All, from free tutoring to community programs. Teamwork truly makes the dream work, and we're immensely grateful for our volunteers, especially Lucy Baum Photography, and sponsors like The St-Georges Group | Assante, Info-Tech Montreal, Air Canada, Marriott Terminal Aéroport de MontréalIn-Terminal Hotel, Souffle de Vie Vineyard, Pink Posh, Artistika Communications, and Librairie Clio.
