The 2024 Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP Diversity Disclosure Practices report has been released, being its 10th-anniversary report. The report's detailed insight reveals that progress on diversity practices at the board level has found continued improvement, albeit slower and with much less progress in representation among chairs and leadership teams. Much information is provided on the representation of women, visible minorities, indigenous peoples, and persons with disabilities in Canada's corporate leadership. A comprehensive list of best practices for increasing diversity provides examples of innovative leaders for each initiative. We are pleased about the mention of the LGBTQ Corporate Directors Canada and the Institute for Gender and the Economy's report revealing that only 0.15% of Corporate directors in Canada identify as being LGBTQ . This is an astonishingly low diversity representation and one that is actively being addressed going forward. The 2024 LGBTQ Board Monitor Report, published by Association of LGBTQ Corporate Directors under the leadership of Fabrice C Houdart, is Now Available. This fulsome report includes statistics of LGBTQ Corporate Board representation on Fortune 500 companies in aggregate and by gender, race, industry, geography, age, tenure, and educational background. Unfortunately it also highlights the continued need to advocate for better diversity. As of 2024, 47 board seats—out of over 5,400 available (Fortune estimate)—are occupied by LGBTQ individuals, representing 0.9% of all board seats. This slightly improved compared to the 0.74% reported in 2023. While some new appointments have nudged the needle forward, the real change comes from better information on who is LGBTQ in the boardroom.
