Today is the International Day for the Elimination Of Racial Discrimination where we recognize that the injustices and prejudices incited by racial discrimination continue to take place every day. There is still important work to be done as we see that women and other equity deserving groups are still experiencing discrimination and racism within their workplace. From WIL’s Bridge to Gender Equality: Transforming the Workplace Report, our research found that: 💡 55.6% of employees experienced inappropriate comments, slurs or jokes within the workplace 💡 37.4% of employees experienced exclusion from group activities or isolating behaviours 💡 5/10 employees did not feel safe to address their concerns to their manager or human resource manager In October, WIL’s Bridge to Gender Equality Project launched the Transforming the Workplace Pledge to measure the commitment of our Canadian employers and organizations to champion change by amending their workplace policies and practices. International Women’s Day is an important time for us to not only celebrate the achievements of incredible, diverse women across the world but also to pause and reflect on what we’ve learned this year and how we’re continuing to rally for progress towards gender equality in the Canadian workforce. This year's theme for International Women’s Day is inclusivity which embodies how important it is to collectively recognize and empower women from all backgrounds in our efforts and initiatives.    When women support women, incredible things happen. I see this message everywhere. And it reminds me of a saying that my Mom and Babas (Grandmothers) taught me, that 'the giving hand is never empty'. And that is how we continue to live our lives through acts of kindness, supporting others, following the values of inclusivity and that we are stronger when we join together. This is my 'why' for starting the organization 23 years ago as I did it to help other women and I am so honoured and grateful every day to everyone for their belief in unity and the harmony that it brings us all.   Not only do we benefit from shared experiences, but together we can have a massive impact on our children, our families, our workplaces, our economy, and our planet.
