About us

Ladysmith is a feminist research consultancy. Policymakers, program designers, and social movements use data to craft the futures they want to see. A smith is a craftsperson. Throughout history, crafting has typically been associated with men’s work (think blacksmith, tinsmith, locksmith, silversmith). At Ladysmith we believe that women and their life experiences are critical to crafting a more just and caring world. Guided by the principle “no research about us, without us,” we help international organizations collect, analyze and take action on gender data. http://www.ladysmithcollective.com

✨The first UNICEF #Gender in #Emergencies Surge simulation training✨ ⚡ From September 9-13, Ladysmith researchers Julia Zulver and Lucía Mesa Velez were in #Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪 facilitating the first #training on Gender in Emergencies for UNICEF Staff and Partners Deployed on Surge Assignment. 🌍 The cohort included 21 participants from all over the world: from #Afghanistan to #Mali, from #PapuaNewGuinea to #Colombia. Over the course of a week, we focused on creating and running simulation scenarios for participants to learn how to apply important practical learnings in real life settings ✏. Working together with facilitators @Maria Margherita Maglietti @David Andrés Viñas and Aslanyan Narine we focused on reviewing and practicing the skills that participants will need to employ when deployed in emergency responses worldwide 🚨. We also took ample time to reflect and learn from each other’s experiences. And most importantly - we had a lot of fun along the way! 😎🥳💫 Thank you to Omar J. Robles and @Emmanuelle COMPINGT for bringing together such a wonderful group 🙏 We are thrilled to continue to support UNICEF’s cross-cutting gender commitments, and look forward to the next iteration of the training early next year 🗓! #GenderInEmergencies #UNICEF #Training #Facilitation #CrossCuttingCommitments #WomenAndGirls

Political Economy, Social Protection & Social and Gender norms

🎉 New Report Alert - UNICEF GRASSP Research Program 🎉 Our latest report on the Gender Political Economy of Social Protection in Ethiopia is finally out! 💡 We unpack the role and influence of various national and international stakeholders over time, revealing the gender ideologies they have brought to the decision-making table. 💡 We show how gender has (and has not!) been integrated into Ethiopia’s flagship social protection program, the Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP). 💡 The findings emphasize the importance of engaging national stakeholders in advancing gender design provisions, particularly by involving women’s organizations in high-level decision-making processes and enhancing the focus on implementing gender provisions. https://lnkd.in/efqAicqE Cite: Maria Klara Kuss, Mathilde Van Drooghenbroeck, PhD, Getu Demeke Alene and Kiran Stallone, Institutionalization of Gender in the Design of the Ethiopia’s Productive Safety Net Programme, UNICEF Innocenti, Florence, August 2024. #GenderEquality #Socialprotection #Ethiopia #PoliticalEconomy #UNICEF #GRASSP #PSNP #ResearchImpact #gender #InternationalDevelopment #WomenEmpowerment #GenderResearch #InclusivePolicies Please share widely: Lauren Whitehead, Ramya Subrahmanian, Maja Gavrilovic, Shreyasi Jha, Sinta Satriana, Nyasha Tirivayi, Frank Otchere, Valeria Groppo, Clara Ceravolo, Andrea Rossi, Nicholas Mathers, PhD, Tia Palermo, Erëblina Elezaj, Ruth Graham-Goulder, Tara Cookson, Lorena Fuentes, Ph.D., Gustavo Angeles, Rima Al Mokdad, Silke Staab, Zahrah Nesbitt-Ahmed, Sara Abdoulayi
