#KCB welcomes our newest hire to the Sudbury office. Arik Collins is a Mining Consultant who completed both his BASc and MASc in Mining Engineering at Queen’s University. His master's thesis explored the reprocessing of sulphidic tailings from the defunct Cantung Mine in the Northwest Territories, demonstrating potential reductions in Acid Rock Drainage and Metal Leaching—a promising solution for Canada's mine closure and reclamation issues. With prior experience in the oil sands, gold mining, and roles within the Canadian government, Arik brings a wealth of knowledge to KCB. He is enthusiastic about contributing to the mining environmental group, eager to collaborate on diverse projects, and looks forward to integrating with his new colleagues.

Na semana passada, entre os dias 24 e 27 de setembro, tive o prazer de participar do Cobramseg 2024, um dos congressos mais relevantes de Engenharia Geotécnica no 🇧🇷. Nesta edição, realizada em Balneário Camboriú, tive a honra de representar a Klohn Crippen Berger e apresentar um trabalho relacionado à caracterização geotécnica de rejeitos de minério de ferro com base em conceitos da mecânica dos solos dos estados críticos. O maior privilégio foi estar acompanhado pelos meus amigos e colegas Vinicius de Castro Botelho Lanza e Isabella Costa, com quem desenvolvi este trabalho técnico, além do Enzo Silva Dias e Zharry Bueno, que também apresentaram seus respectivos estudos. Agradeço a todos os colegas que assistiram à apresentação pelo interesse demonstrado no tema e pelos comentários positivos. Foi uma excelente oportunidade para expandir nosso conhecimento técnico e trocar experiências com profissionais que compartilham a mesma paixão pela engenharia geotécnica, especialmente pela geotecnia aplicada à mineração. _________________________________________ Last week, from September 24th to 27th, I had the pleasure of participating in Cobramseg 2024, one of the most relevant geotechnical engineering conferences in 🇧🇷. This edition, held in Balneário Camboriú, honored me with the opportunity to represent Klohn Crippen Berger and present a paper on the geotechnical characterization of iron ore tailings based on critical state soil mechanics concepts. The greatest privilege was being accompanied by my friends and colleagues Vinicius and Isabella, with whom I developed this technical work, as well as Enzo and Zharry, who also presented their respective studies. I would like to thank the professionals who attended the presentation for their interest in the topic and their positive feedback. #KCB welcomes our newest hire to the Vancouver office. Alec Sproule is a Geological Consultant who obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Texas Permian Basin in 2018. He recently earned a Master of Science degree, with a specialization in sedimentology from Simon Fraser University. Since completing his undergraduate studies, Alec has gained diverse experience as an operations supervisor in horticulture and the film/TV special effects production industries. He is eager to bring his unique background and skills to #KCB.

Our #KCB Brazil office team recently celebrated Brazil's Independence Day during their monthly in-office event, "Momento KCB," with a delicious pizza feast. Brazil's Independence Day, celebrated on September 7, is also known as “Dia da Independência” or “Sete de Setembro.” The day is marked by parades, concerts, and cultural performances nationwide. The Brazilian government hosts an official parade on the Ministries Esplanade in the capital city of Brasília, with the president leading the celebration. #BrazilIndependenceDay #OfficeCelebration
