Congratulations to Laurel Fry on receiving the All Stars Clinical Staff Recognition Award Recipients of this award are nominated by peers for outstanding contributions and demonstrating a positive and professional influence on the work environment. Fry is a is a Dietitian with the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology team and provides excellence in care, research, innovation and applied learning for patients and their families. She has been with the clinic for 10 years and has been an integral part of the growth and change as well as a leading force in programs such as the pump start pilot program, where children can be trained out in the community on insulin pumps with the insulin pump companies. This has reduced wait times in hospital and has been a huge success for the clinic. Fry has also dedicated some of her time to on-going research in diabetes trials and is currently working on research focused on pregnant women and insulin pumps, and all of this is on top of her work in the clinic. She also makes it a mission each summer to work at the diabetes camp for a week. IWK Health recently recognized and celebrated the outstanding contributions of IWK colleagues with All Stars awards. Congratulations to Maddie Gallant on receiving the Ruby Blois Master Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 1997 to recognize Ruby Blois' outstanding contribution to nursing and the health of women, children, youth, and their families over her 35-year career at the IWK. To receive this honour, the nurse must have demonstrated excellence in the care of women, children, youth and families, meeting and often exceeding, the standards of nursing practice. The scholarship committee also looks for a nurse who has contributed to excellence in the practice of other nurses, sharing knowledge to advance best practice and clinical experience, conducting nursing research or a policy or leadership practicum that will make a novel contribution to the health of women, children, youth, and their families. Gallant is a Perinatal Nurse Consultant with the Reproductive Care Program and is committed to ongoing development as a nursing scholar and the members of the Scholarship Committee were very impressed by her application. We had an amazing time celebrating at the Halifax Pride parade this past weekend! Pride events are a fantastic way to visibly support and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA communities. The IWK is proud to join the Halifax Pride Festival with Nova Scotia Health Authority. While these events are filled with joy and celebration, it’s important to remember their roots in the fight for equality. Our journey continues, but together, we're creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Let’s keep celebrating Pride and taking action to uplift 2SLGBTQIA voices! 🌈

Congratulations to Dr. Tania Wong on receiving The Family Leadership Council the Award Excellence in People Centred Care. The Family Leadership Council presents the Award for Excellence in People Centred Care as a way to recognize an IWK Health employee, health care provider or team, who have achieved excellence in the principal concepts of People Centred Care. Dr. Tania Wong is a community pediatrician. Her humility and gentle way of truly listening is a powerful asset with young patients who may not feel safe in the world. Not only does her humility create opportunities for excellent clinical care that the child may not otherwise access, but it also sends a message that there are caring adults in the world who believe a vulnerable child is so important and worthy of championing. “Dr. Wong is extremely skilled in communicating medical knowledge in ways that my child and I can truly absorb and understand. The trust and respect Dr. Wong has built with my child is remarkable and is one of the best relationships my child has had with an adult. For a child that has experienced significant trauma, struggles with developmental disabilities, and is frequently misunderstood by adults, this relationship is unspeakably precious.” IWK Health recently recognized and celebrated the outstanding contributions of IWK colleagues with All Stars awards. Congratulations to the nominees and recipients and thank you for all you’ve done. We wish you continued enjoyment and success in your work!
