About us

ICON Talent Partners is non-profit talent development organization dedicated to educating, training, mentoring and exposing top diverse talent to high impact sectors, where they are often underrepresented. Namely, we train and help place talent in areas such as investment banking, asset management, corporate law, venture capital as well as tech start-ups. Our target demographic are students, young professionals and mid-careerists who identify as visible minorities with an emphasis on Black, Latinx and Indigenous talent.

    ICON Talent Partners, We Strive Ventures and the University of Toronto Black Alumni Association (UTBAA) are excited to co-host an Executive Roundtable with Voltron Data on Tuesday October 1st from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm prior to the start of the Elevate Festival! Voltron Data is accelerating some of the U.S. federal government's and financial service industry’s largest big data challenges with the Apache Arrow open-source project and/or Theseus. The Voltron Data team coming to Canada is being led by Perry Flemming (VP of Corporate Development) and Joey Hill, MBA, MIS (Executive Brand Strategist). During the roundtable we will highlight how their products can deliver solutions for Canadian federal agencies and financial service institutions. For context Voltron Data has raised $110M USD since its inception and is one of the most instrumental Black and Latinx led startups in the United States.     ICON Talent Partners had its Second Annual Global Summer Institute for high school students virtually from July 15th to 19th which brought together an amazing collection of 30 speakers who are corporate lawyers, venture capitalists, digital marketing leaders, startup founders, admissions officers from amazing universities and much much more! This virtual event culminated with first ever in person Closing Ceremony hosted at Fasken on Saturday July 20th. During this Closing Ceremony we had four of the most recent ICON Talent Partners and KPMG Canada Scholars join a panel discussion about how this opportunity to receive a $5,000 scholarship for university and to receive a paid summer internship at KPMG Canada before starting their first year of university in the fall impacted them. A special shoutout to Abena Mcrae, Victoria Gyamfi, Gabriel Santiago and Anokye Kofi Boateng for joining us and for Angelika Bell for being the moderator. We were joined by some special guests who shared their startup journeys and we are indebted to Igbagbo Ajagunna (CEO and Co-Founder of CompCrafter) and Kareem A. (Co-Founder of Kare Chemical Technologies). In addition Jonathon Bloomfield, OCT (CEO of Edventive) shared his knowledge and expertise with all in attendance. Last but definitely not least our long time ally and partner Aarti Mohinani (Talent Professional at KPMG Canada) poured into the youth as well. The highlight of the day was the awarding of official Certificates of Completion for those who attended the entire Summer Institute as well as the Reflection Exercise assigned and reviewed by Marilyn Raphael, MPH, MBA (COO and Co-Founder of ICON Talent Partners). Again this entire event was a team effort and we are excited about our upcoming Summer Institute which will take place in 2025!     ICON Talent Partners is excited to announce that Jodi-Anne Buckley, (Inaugural Black Recruitment Officer and Career Advisor for the Faculty of Engineering - McMaster University), has joined us as a guest speaker during our Second Annual Global High School Summer Institute from Monday July 15th to Friday July 19th. A little about Jodi is below: In the inaugural role of Black Recruitment Officer and Career Advisor for the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University Jodi supports youth domestically and internationally navigating their post-secondary pathway. Through the McMaster Engineering Black Outreach in STEM Series program, also known as BOSS, a significant portion of her work involves introducing Black students to the opportunities they have in STEM education through culturally relevant workshops and hands-on activities. Additionally, Jodi provides career and experiential guidance to current Black students of the faculty. Coining the term Black @ Mac Eng Jodi is dedicated to fostering a community of inclusion and highlighting Black excellence. A little about Ada is below: As the inaugural Assistant Dean, EDI at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Ada is a visible and accessible advocate for the promotion of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in all aspects of law school life. She develops and implements diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives and strategies intended to advance inclusive excellence at the law school. A little about Susanne below: Susanne is a Career Education professional with over 20 years of experience in Career Advising, Career Counseling and Coaching in both Canada and the U.S. Susanne holds a master’s degree in counselling from Indiana University, with interests in Narrative, Jungian, and Rogerian approaches. Susanne is originally from San Francisco, California and worked as Recruiter in high tech prior to moving into academia.   For the past decade, Susanne has managed the C-RISE Programs at the John Molson School of Business, Concordia University and worked as a Career Advisor. The Career Roadmap for International Student Excellence, powered by Scotiabank, is a program that helps international students enter the job market in Quebec and the rest of Canada. The program is a series of international student career seminars, workshops, company tours, and networking sessions that have helped students from all over the world start their careers with top firms in Canada. A little about Baliqis is below: She is an experienced Urban Forestry professional and community engagement advocate. Her journey began with a strong educational foundation in Environmental studies, minor in Geographic Information Systems and Forestry, paving the way for impactful roles across diverse sectors. She has contributed her expertise to renowned organizations like UNICEF Canada, Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada, and FoodShare Toronto focusing on sustainable development and conservation efforts. Currently, Baliqis serves as a Consulting Arborist, blending her deep-rooted passion for nature with professional acumen. Beyond her professional endeavors, she is the co-founder of Looku Looku Tours, a travel company specializing in culturally enriched, theme-based tours. Her leadership has facilitated transformative travel experiences across destinations such as the US, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and an upcoming trip to Mexico.
