On Sept. 22nd, 21 members across several departments attended the first ever Basics of Organizing course delivered by our own Organizing team! Including roleplaying exercises and guest presentations by 891 members who have helped organize their workplaces, the course was described by one participant as "very engaging, interactive, and challenging". Our members are looking forward to using these and more advanced skills by staying engaged with our Organizing team. Be sure to check your e-mail and the e-Bulletin regularly for upcoming training opportunities!

Our own Make-Up Department member Zabrina Matiru was recently awarded the Black Beauty Roster's Excellence Department Head Award for championing diversity and inclusion behind the camera! IATSE 891 celebrates Zabrina's achievement as a member BBR describes as having "paved the way for generations to come". Well deserved!

IATSE 891 joined with our colleagues at ScreenBC to host a booth at UBCM 2024. We were thrilled to be able to use this opportunity to talk about the amazing motion picture industry here in British Columbia to elected municipal and provincial leaders from all over B.C. The theme for this year's conference was "Ride the Wave" in acknowledgment of the vast, varied, and challenging task we all face collectively and that a unified approach is necessary to make it through. Big thanks to Nordwerk Design (https://nordwerk.co/) for collaborating with us to bring our "Made Locally, Seen Globally" campaign to life, and sparking lots of conversations about sustainability in the motion picture industry. On September 7th and 8th members of the Hair Department participated in three different textured hair courses: Consultation and Theory - the Basics of Black Hair, as well as Natural Textured Hairstyling (both instructed by Mykael Jackman), and Braiding and Cornrows instructed by Sheryl Wilson. We thank our members for their enthusiasm and engagement to learn about these important topics. Members are encouraged to regularly check their e-mail and the Ebulletin for upcoming training opportunities.

With the 14 Emmys won on Sunday and 9 more nominations to be decided this weekend, Shogun has broken the record for the most Emmys for a show in history, including 7 awards featuring our members! Congratulations to the 27 members who were named winners so far and to all those nominated. We do our best to make sure we're honouring all our members who get nominated or win, but sometimes we'll miss someone, and we offer our sincere apologies if you've noticed a name left out in an awards post. You can help us keep track when you get nominated by emailing [email protected].

"The person's necklace moved when they leaned over and now it's sort of sitting a bit differently. Their hair is slightly off. We see everything...we see it all and we hear it all."   In the latest Apple Box Talks podcast episode, continuity extraordinaire Laura Collini goes in depth on what it's like being a Script Supervisors member.
