Congratulations to the recipients of the 19th annual Bromley Lloyd Armstrong Awards, including Bode Ibidapo-Obe, a senior IT analyst with Hydro One. Presented by the Equity Community of Toronto & York Region Labour Council and Labour Community Services, Bode was recognized for his extensive work in the areas of labour, equity and human rights in relation to helping establish the Black Employee Resource Circle (BERC) at Hydro One. “I am honoured and humbled. Our newest partnership with Jill of All Trades (JOAT) reflects our dedication to nurturing future talent and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the industry. Spearheaded by our Talent Acquisition team, this partnership provides female students throughout Ontario in grades 9-12 with the resources and support needed to explore careers in skilled trades. Their events, with Conestoga and other colleges, create a safe and engaging environment for students, mentors, and faculty to connect and learn through hands-on workshops. “Our partnership with JOAT is a promise to shape a more inclusive and diverse workforce. In a remarkable feat of engineering prowess, the tunnel boring machine known as the “Celtic Tiger” reached a significant breakthrough in its ambitious underground journey this past spring. This colossal machine, named for its immense power and relentless power, reached the exit shaft and completed the end of the mining phase. The new tunnel runs 85ft below ground in downtown Toronto and will house new transmission cables, replacing cables that have served Toronto's downtown core since the 1950s. This investment will help us continue to provide clean and reliable energy to some of Toronto’s most critical institutions, including Hospital Row, City Hall and the Financial District. Our teams worked closely with the City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro to coordinate construction needs and the use of a tunnel boring machine. Supporting Mental Health with a cup of kindness. Our teammates baked delicious treats to raise funds for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), a global leader in mental health research and treatment. This heartwarming initiative is part of Hydro One's employee giving program, Power to Give – an annual program where employees raise funds through local events, payroll donations, and by volunteering their time to the causes close to our employees' hearts. 100% of proceeds raised from this bake sale go directly to CAMH's Sunrise Challenge, helping them create a brighter future for everyone.
