About us
Launched in April 2015, Hakai Magazine explores science, society, and the environment in compelling narratives that highlight coastal life around the world. Our mandate is to foster a global conversation about coastlines, the places where much of the world’s population lives. These environments filter toxins, buffer erosion, and support vibrant communities of people, plants, and animals. To understand this land- and seascape, people need access to accurate, unbiased, and engaging information. We practice journalism in the public interest and publish all of our stories exclusively online, without paywalls or ads.

At the end of 2024, the Hakai Magazine team will fledge from the Tula Foundation, which has supported the magazine for a decade. We’re incredibly sad, but our team is proud of the great work we’ve done these past 10 years. We have 5 more months of beautiful and unique coastal stories to come! (And look for the team in a new iteration in 2025.) More info here: https://lnkd.in/gPTWW49N
